Re: Turbo 3800 blazer
fuel filter clogged. it happened litterally overnight. I use a stock gm filter for flex fuel. 4001 is the PN i think.
decided to do a brake conversion from an 01 blazer I found at a local yard. I ended up spending more that I had hoped.
$110-all calipers, hardware, rotors, pads, mounting stuff, spindles, cv axles
$65 - new mounting brackets for rear (old pins froze in bracket)
$45 - Hawk hps rear pads
$65 - Hawk Heavy duty crazy truck brakes (best I could get)
$120- Goodridge stainless steel brake lines front/back
This is what I was starting with, and it really worked pretty well.
ripped apart...I also ended up changing some ball joints while I was in there. They were a little loose.
new pads/brakes installed. I reused the junk yard rotors. Also, my speed bleeders fit in the front. Unfortunetly my stainless lines did not...ima talk to them on monday. I did buy new rubber ones though, as they were only 10.99 and mine were ****ed.
I could not get the upper bolt to budge at all other than spin. I used a floor jack to bend the backing plate up and sawzalled the braket off at the wheel cylinder mount.
So this is where things got bad.
I discovered that the setup did not fit at all. it was about an inch too far outboard, and the rotor was hitting it far before it was seating on the flange. I weighed my options, and came out with this.
I cut my bracket in almsot half, leaving 3 mounting holes. I also cut off anything that wasnt flat.
I then mounted it on the backside of the flange (first drilling a hole, as there were only three to start with. I did this by bolting in on the front, and useing the hole in the bracket as a guide.)
Everything then lined up correctly. It was amazing.
for the prop valve I did some reasearce and came up with a few things. I decided to do the older trick and take the front bolt thing off the front, and remove the spring and valve thing. I then had to seal the hole that was in the front bolt, because it now leaked fluid for some reason. It looked like this.
After a few miles of hard stops to wear the rusted, butt-****ed rotors in, it turns out they are all straight and great. They seem to be wearing pretty evenly, and the braking is much better than before.
I would say I picked up about 15% increased braking. The biggest thing though so far is the way the brakes come on. they are much more positive in response, and they dont lock up as unpredictably. I ran an auto x today and they felt wayyyy better then before. I am excited for my new lines up front to come in.
