Re: turbo choice- need opinions

well guys its a choice between one of the 2- i have to piss with the peter i got here.

i have the 60-1 on a gn that could go
or
i could trade it for the te44 if it would be a better match to my converter/combo

i am adding meth/alcohol kit as well

but its really what i have- not buying anything else at the moment''

my goals are a low 12 truck that i could drive like i do now- which is anywhere i want

Are they both GN turbo's? ie do you need the 3-4 Bolt adapters?

The 60-1 will be fine with your converter.... I wouldn't waste time Trading for a 44.

You'll likely have fuel issues with stock injectors.

Re: turbo choice- need opinions

thanks dig

im hoping the smc kit that i got(or the 7th inj) will help me stretch the injectors out a lil.

not trying to cause issues with these weird combos but i have allot of gn parts to"hand me down" to the truck and i intend on using them to the best of their ability.

i hate to even mention this but if fueling is an issue( AND IT WILL BE)
i have a kenne bell 40lb chip and a newer set of 009 42.5 lb injectors id like to make use of.and im sure the chip will have to undergo major changes to pair it up safely

again i don't care if the truck ever gets into the 11s.i just enjoy the driving and occasional street race

Re: turbo choice- need opinions

hey the 44's a nice turbo, old school, but nice ;) . Besides the stock turbo will support low 12 second et's with the alky :D . Regardless which turbo you choose, it will take MORE BOOST(20+) :D

Re: turbo choice- need opinions

I think picking the right one depends on your future goals.

Remember, if in a few years your going to want to go faster (or within a month like some of us..) then go with a turbo that's large enough to fit both your goals now and then. That way your not spending double what you need to.

A 6x turbo will put you into the low 12's and into 11's easily with tuning and a few other small things. My truck went 12.3's with hardly any tuning at all.

Re: turbo choice- need opinions

my goals are just to
1-use the parts i have
2- and go as fast as i can reliably.

have you guys heard that one yet?haha

my truck has had a stock turbo with 2 broken blades on the intake side, stock d/p- cat/ injectors
SINCE 1999- and it runs fine - a 13.6 to be exact

but now i have things in place to upgrade and i need help and advise on tunning etc - to use my parts safely and effectively-

speed/hp/track times are way down the list of priority-
im certain to go faster/ safer then stock even if the injectors/chip/turbo are not the most up to date favorites of the vendors or board.

thanks for everyones continued posts

Re: turbo choice- need opinions

I would use the 60-1. I would SMC alky kit (forget the 7th injector), you will eventually run out of injector as you increase the boost level. I would just slowly turn the boost up and monitor it.

x2. The 7th injector never really worked well in practice... you were trying to distribute fuel through a manifold/plenum that wasn't meant to distribute fuel.

X3, but I would use a Razor alky kit instead. Maybe even a dual setup.:2cents:

Re: turbo choice- need opinions

appreciate it guys keep the ideas coming

i have a duel set up for it -i want to try single first

and as the previous post says - im not buying anything i don't already have right now

so its that alcohol kit or nothing

and if injectors become an issue- then 42lbs are on the workbench in the wings until i max out the 77 hp each they supposedly can handle(in a gn anyways)

Re: turbo choice- need opinions

Oops missed you already had a SMC. Duals alky should get you well into the 11's.

Re: turbo choice- need opinions

since you have the stall the 60-1 would be a no brainer. As for the 42# injector/chip setup. Dont waste your time unless you have someone who is willing to custom burn you a calibrated chip for those injectors. Your truck will be faster with the stock injectors over any KB prom for larger injectors.

Re: turbo choice- need opinions

im actually hoping someone here would re burn that 40lb chip for my set up- when the time comes

right now thats a long ways off- im thinking of l35s and a cam before that

well its unanimous
- the turbonetics 60-1 with a .63 exhaust housing and a ported waste gate hole is what ill be using
