Turbo coolant line Help

I recently picked up both the coolant and oil lines for the stock turbo from RPM and managed to get both the upper Coolant line and oil drain line on without a snag. Started working on the lower coolant line and after pulling the starter I managed to get the old line off, In the process i must have damaged the threads on the brass fitting on the side of the block and for the life of me couldn't get the new fitting to thread into it. Just wanted to know if the fitting on the side of the block is removable or not? Seems to be in there fairly good and wasn't sure if I could replace it or If I'm gonna need to re thread it. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm referring to #7 in the picture

Yes, number 7 in the pic is removable. If 6 is removed, use a socket on 7. Upon reassembly pipe-dope on the threads into the block and nothing on #6.

Are you sure you cross threaded or mugged something up?

Fittings are brass .. Soft metal. I think it is extremely difficult to get the "right" angle underneath. You might just not have it correctly squared up for the threads to catch. I know it is hard to do from underneath. Everyone always complains about that line and how hard it is to work on. I would just try again. Or remove that brass part and verify you mugged it up. Could be sealant or thread compound holding you back.

Wow you guys were quick, much appreciated. Yea I'm fairly confident its buggered, i can get it to start threading but its clearly going in on an angle, and I spent the better part of 2 hours trying every which way. Ill confirm that when I get the fitting out of the block now that I know it does actually come out. By any chance would you guys happen to know the correct fitting for the side of the block if it so happens I need to find a replacement. Many thanks

Re: Turbo coolant line Help

I'll go out on a limb, since I'm not looking at it, I'd say 3/8 male pipe to 3/8 inverted flare. half union.

It's real easy to cross-thread inverted flair fittings. Get the block fitting out. Then either get a new one or get the nut to screw in straight. Unless it's a total mess often this can be done in a pinch. Like half way between Reno and Winnemucca. :rotf:

Hint. This may or my not work. Start the nut into the fitting -then- install the fitting into the block tight, then tighten the flare nut. You'll know if you have the pipe fitting in incorrectly because it will bind up immediately, Otherwise you can go the first few turns by hand.

It's common to use two wrenches on a flare fitting, one on the nut and one on the fitting. Otherwise tightening the nut can cause the whole fitting to turn.

Little long but hope it helps.
