Turbo Possibilities w/stock exhuast and stock DP????

What are some turbo options for a built motor with stock exhaust and stock downpipe....Also trying to keep the A/C stuff around.

Currently there is a 20g on the motor now....and I don't have the cash for a 3" DP.

You could have some hybrid built that is larger, but it will be held back by the stock downpipe. IMO If you want to keep a Mitsubishi turbo, the next logical mod would be a larger 3" downpipe :2cents:

Re: Turbo Possibilities w/stock exhuast and stock DP????

Let me rephrase my question,

My motor has ported vortecs,412cam, 50lbers, 2,900 stallTC,......and the turbo has a been bored out on the compressor side for a 20g compressor wheel. Also there is a external Racegate WG on the truck...>

What kind of hybrid would relate to the pte52 or pte54 setup??...I'm trying to stay in the 500-550hp range. while spending no more than 1K on the turbo

I was thinking a 14cm exhaust housing with....????

Thanks,

Like mentioned I think until you have the 3" pipe of some sort, any updgraded turbo will be minimal of an upgrade.

How about sell your 20g and use it towards a 1400-1500 PTE or RPM turbo kit. By the time you upgrade you 20g/exhaust housing and a 3" downpipe you going to be close if not over that price. 2.5" down pipe isn't going to do 550hp.

I hear ya,

So you think I'll have minimal gains with a 14cm exhaust housing/60 series compressor side with a "H" compressor wheel?

It
sucks to spend 680 bucks on a DP when the turbo is going to cost about the same.

check out our garret hybrid turbos. Lots of guys have been getting really good results with the stock downpipe. Obviously a 3" dp wouldnt hurt, but bang for the buck you wont find a better deal anywhere else that gives you the performance, and steady boost controll of these turbos. Then in the future, you can always bolt on a PTE turbine housing, and add the 3" downpipe w/o changing the turbo itself. However with a mitusbishi style turbine housing/wheel, you are stuck. Since you have the converter, even that 14cm2/60trim will work noticeably better.

The PTE downpipe won't work with a Mitsu exhaust housing, the most recent 3" downpipe GP was in the low 400's.

Mike,

whats up....I wanted to ask you about those.....

Would I see some good gains from the turbo I have now if I got your Stage 3 version of the garret hybrid....and how would that compare to a the 14cm2/60trim I had mentioned.

Re: Turbo Possibilities w/stock exhuast and stock DP????

should pick up quite a bit over a 20g compressor.. I have never really played around with the mitsu stuff b/c it is expensive and hard to get. We can put basically any combo together, but we kept most of the stages on the small side due to the stock downpipe. There gets to be a point where going larger on the turbo only increases the backpressure. Stage 3 is very similar to H wheel, and b/c it is in a To4B housing, it flows really well from 14-20psi. Turbine wheel is also larger then the TE44, 20G style wheels and still seems to spool up pretty good even with stock converters..
