Turbo shaft movement?

BAD BOW TY

New member
I took the pipe off between the filter and turbo(stock set up)The orange elbow that goes into the compressor side had alot of oil residue and also around the turbo were it plugs in.I also stuck my finger down in it.I bet ya I got about 2mm of play or so on the shaft,it felt pretty sloppy. So my question is,are these signs that my turbo's waxed. It would make sense, because its been consuming oil,and more when Im harder on it.I narrowed it down to turbo or valve seals.Checked compression, that all looks good, nothing on a leak down.

i think some oil is normal as it may come from the pcv system that is routed into the stock air box...I could be wrong.

Referring to previous experience...

Turbos work on a pressurized oil bearing, so it is natural to have some radial play. What is bad is if you can move the wheels in and out laterally (i.e. wheels moving in and out in a parallel direction to the shaft.). I had that same scare when I removed my turbo. The wheels will stabilize themselves when they spin at the extremely high RPMs they're made for.

Hope This Helps,
Brandon
