Re: TY Rebuild

all these pictures were from stuff that was done before i owned it, look at the comical stuff on it :rotf: the ac is missing all its tubing probly cause the douche changed out the air box with the shottiest air filter system ive ever seen  the oil line just below the filter is a hole drilled and the hose and conector shoved inside, now iam no mechanic or expert with SYTY's but i assume that the oil sitting in the intake tube is not normal, but there are some ok mods, its got a MSD IGN. and distributor, and i couldnt tell you if the cpm has been messed with at all, still drives ok, it sometimes dies at an idle if iam in drive, has some smoke on quick acceleration, vibrates bad at 70 if cruising and the front end clunks on bumps but iam not sure if its the CV's or the susp. it also likes to pull to the right, and iam not sure what this is all about but the electrical systems not that good or iam going to need to replace the alternator cause if i have too many things running at the same time some dont work ie. if the ligts and heater is on the blinkers dont work, or if the lights are on and i turn the heater on the lights get dimmer, iam pretty sure its the alternator but like i said iam not an expert on these trucks so if anyone knows anything that it might be let me know well thats it for now i will let you look at my shittttty engine :rotf:

Re: TY Rebuild

Yeah, the A/C and the intake are kinda getto. Dont you just looove fixing stuff that somebody else screwed up? That tube in the filter is for the PCV, personally, I would continue to use it untill you find something better. The oil is nothing to really worry about. There may be a little more than normal but nothing major.IMO The A/C line shouldnt cost much to replace, I just hope the compressor is still good. Did the guy you bought it from give you any of the stock parts? I would look for a stock intake crossover tube like the one in this pic...

If you need any stock parts contact Tom Mandrov (aka BBW808).

Im not as good at the electrical systems stuff but you should have the alternator tested. These things are VERY voltage sensative. Im still willing to bet that most of your problems with it running/idleing rough are vacuum related. I bet its still running pig rich too. You need to email Ian about one of those vacuum line kits. It will be the best thing you ever buy for your truck. You will thank me later.

Re: TY Rebuild

You can probably use the tube with your K&N stuck on the end of it. Thats what Im running on my Sy.

Re: TY Rebuild

summittracing.com or jegs.com would suggest getting a higher amp like a 120-140 or so.

Re: TY Rebuild

If the alternator was going out for awhile, it couldve been part of your running problem. The alternator was going out in the Ty and I couldnt even tell it untill I made a pass in the 1/8th and I lost over .5 sec. These trucks like all the amps they can get.

You find any locals to help you wrench on it yet?

Re: TY Rebuild

sh*t i already bought and installed a 105, but the perk is my turbo seems to be spooling better and i have enough amperage to use all my electronics at the same time for once lol,

no man no locals to help me out, the truck is still slow compared to what it could be, i need some engine work and a total suspension fix, truck pulls right and needs aligning, and the front end clunks real bad on bumps, i dont think its the cv's i think its the shocks but still lookin for someone to help the fix

Re: TY Rebuild

Thats strange. I always thought the NWSTP guys stuck together. Ty0279, Chest Rockwell, Seti, s_blazin, Osmosis, skywayb, SeattleSy#1255 are all pretty active on here and local to you. Hit them up with some PMs. Also go to http://www.nwstp.com/ .

Re: TY Rebuild

Not to many NWSTP guys with facilities to do a lot of repairs is the problem.

Fair amount that do their own trucks, just not setup for more than that.

I would call some NWSTP guys though, I am sure they can come to your house to help, offer advice and/or consume beverages and BS.

Kindof like chasing women, you can't sit and wait for them to come to you.

If I still lived back there I would offer to help.

Re: TY Rebuild

Alright, update from this afternoon. I was in too much of a hurry running out of my apartment, trying to sell this Blazer of mine (crappy story there, too), to grab my laptop with datamaster. We finally caught up around 2, went back to look at the Typhoon. Hard to say what condition the vacuum lines are, but they're all going where they're supposed to, as far as I can see. What's interesting is the electrical issue it seems to have. It'll start in Park, and idle. It'll turn over in Neutral, but WON'T start. All other gears, the neutral safety switch does what it's supposed to, and keeps it from cranking. So, once the truck starts, it idles high, roughly 1100 RPM, with the boost guage almost at 0. No vacuum, not quite boost. Turn on the running lights, and it hesitates a little, but should keep running. Turn on the headlights, though, and that kills it. Same with rear wiper, shifting into gear, foot on the brake, virtually anything requiring more juice. It's got a new alternator on it, but we didn't have anything to test voltage with. Doesn't seem like any of the gauges work properly, not sure the voltmeter can be trusted either. Going back next Saturday, if not sooner, with the laptop to try again. Does it sound like we're on the right track? Yeah, the truck also has some blow-by issues, might have to get a closer look at the PCV valves when I get back to it, too.:(

Re: TY Rebuild

so today i was driving the ty and all of a sudden it was spuddering and keep in mind this is three days after i put the new alternator in, the truck just died in the middle of an intersection, it would start in park but once i tried to shift the transfer case into drive it would die before i even got close to reverse, so i tried starting it in nuetral and it started so i gave it some gas then shifted to driv and barely got it out of the intersection, so i had to have it towed back to the house where myself and chest rockwell did some investigation, and we found out any time its given any kind of an electrical load it dies, whether its pushing the brakes or turning the heat on she just dies, so we came to the conclusion its the alternator and the truck is running off battery, but i just replaced the damn alternator so iam wanting and hoping for some advice or other possible problems you all might think this could be but if i dont get anything back i guess iam going to pull the alternator again and take it back for a new one.
