Diesel oil has far more Moly and ZDDP content since there is less restriction from the epa and other such agencies. The class of oil is different and have to follow different guidelines

Re: Type of oil do you use???

In my non turbo cars - Castrol GTX. Started with that in 1977 and have never had a sludge problem or an engine component wear problem. Made it to 185K in a GM 3.1 V6 before a head gasket let go. Inside the engine was incredibly clean and there was no significant wear on the cam or bearings.
Use Mobil 1 in the turbo cars but I hear is not the same as it was and may change.
Have not yet found a significant advantage to a synthetic oil in a non performance type application (like a daily driver) as long as the oil is changed regularly (like at 3K).
Did some R&D to a problem in the marine 496 with roller cams and synthetic oil. The lifter was falling down the back side of the lobe rather than rolling down and was leaving flat spots on the roller. A simple change to a conventional oil solved the problem. The great lubricity of the synthetic did not allow enough friction for the roller to roll with the lobe.

Re: Type of oil do you use???

I am running Amsoil 10W30 on my TY. I buy it from a local dealer who sells it for less than I could buy Mobil 1 at any parts store. This oil is supposed to be good for 25K miles or 1 year. I usually run mine for two years with the limited miles I put on. One of my coworkers actually ran his oil for 175K miles using a secondary remote filter with no problems at all. He sent samples of his oil for periodic analysis and they always came back good. IMO, this is great stuff. If you'd like, you can contact my vendor for pricing @ 1-888-475-6457. Ask for Evan.

Thanks

Re: Type of oil do you use???

I run euro 0w40 in my DSM sometimes, also run rotella15w40, some castrol 10w30,
of course mobil 1. I have learned quite a bit working in the oil and lube industry in the last 2 years. Like how european oils are by far better then the stuff we get here in America. It seems we are stuck with this super thin oil that has horrible shear qualities and breaks down really fast so that your car gets better mileage. Take for instance a Dodge ram sold in mexico is advised to use 10w30 to 15w40. but in america came motor uses 5w20. Just some food for thought.
