Typhoon died on me, won't start...

 I went for a little summer cruise from LA to San Diego yesterday. Truck has been running totally legit and in its prime. Got to San Diego in the hot 90s degree weather. As I picked up my cousin and left his neighborhood the Ty just died, out of no where. Pulled to the side, tried to crank it and it wouldn't come back to life. It sounded like it wants to crank back over but no fuel delivery. I popped the hood and the IC pump made funny noises, but no signs of anything major. Oil, water, and gas levels all optimal. Couldn't troubleshoot any further in the hot sun, just cranks but won't stumble over and no gas flow even when pumping pedal. Used my AAA premier towing with 200 miles max, went about 130 miles in 4-door flat bed all the way home not happy. :( Don't know where to start. Check fuses, battery, IC pump connection, fuel pressure: all in normal order. Can there be a clog in the fuel filter or delivery down the line?

fuel pump relay? do you hear the pump prime? Use a paper clip to connect the fuel pump test wire to the positive post on the firewall. This will by pass the relay. or you can swap the relay from the ac just to test. They are right next to each other on the driver's side above the brake booster.

Check all fuses, they are good. Took off fuel pump guage on the rail, still primes and shoots a lot of gas out. I tried pulling a spark plug out and cranking for a spark but no luck. This seems to be the problem. How do you check the distributor and coil?

Pull the coil wire off cap and rest above hole, if spark is good then could be module or bad rotor. If no spark then the coil is bad.

Spark from our coils should be sharp blue color. I thought fuel pump or relay but if you don't have spark at your spark plug that could do it too.

It sounds like it could be the module in the distributor.

Re: Typhoon died on me, won't start...

My syclone did something similar earlier this year and it turned out that my coil went bad.

Tried to test coil by pink/white jumper behind distributor. Both leads show +12v test. Still no spark. What does this mean: bad rotor, module, or distributor?

9 times out of 10 if it just quit when it was running and both the ECM A and ECM B fuses are good, it is the IGNITION MODULE that is inside the distributor that went out. Especially with it being so hot out. I have had that happen to me a couple of times. You can buy a new one and put it in. 65-90 bucks is what they usually run. Make sure you clean the base of the distributor really good where the Ignition module bolts to and put thermo grease that comes with the module on it before you install it in the distributor. The grease helps the heat transfer from the module. If you do that, it should last a long time. If you do not make sure everything clean, the module could go out again very quickly.

If the tach doesn't jump when you crank it,prolly ignition module.
