Typhoon Engine Plate: New product.

I've never liked that when I open the hood on our Typhoon that it says:
"Syclone" 4.3L Turbo

I sent my intake over to a friend who does CAD for a living and another guy who can set it up on a machiene to cut the words exactly like "Syclone" but it'll say "Typhoon"

So I am having them make a peice of allum. that is the same size as the very top of our intake plenum where "Syclone"4.3LTurbo is now. You will be given a two part epoxy that will glue the new plate right on top of the old one.

Now when you open the hood on your Typhoon it'll be "Typhoon 4.3L Turbo"

Thoughts? Suggestions? Anyone with a Typhoon want somthing like this?
I'll have costs on the product soon... Very easy to install.
Hope to have it in the 50-70.00 range for the kit.
Thanks, Scott

Re: Typhoon Engine Plate: New product.

Your idea sounds good but it is gonna build up the area the script appears in and since it will be glued there will be a line where the 2 are joined.

That wasn't good enough for me so I went a little further.
*NOTE: I started with a molested upper so I did not trash a good intake for this

As it should have come from the factory...

All dressed up and no place to go.

There were some better pics taken of it on the truck at Nats but since northeastsyty.com crashed I haven't found them online anywhere.
If anyone has any pics of it at Nats please email them to me.
I was so busy that weekend I only took a dozen pics or so and looking back at them I am wondering wtf I was thinking...

I have only seen this mod on one other truck in person and his intake was chromed. BLING!
Renz started ona similar project but bailed.

Re: Typhoon Engine Plate: New product.

The way the one's in the picture above turned out great with the media blast done.. Cool!!!
Wish it was cheap to do that! Looks perfect!

It will have a small raise where the two are put together but I don't think it'll be bad.

No one is going to take their intake of.. build it up with weld and then do the script. too costly and takes a truck down for several weeks.

I'm going to have these made... I know there's a limited number of trucks thus a small amount of people who would be interested. That's why no one makes parts for our trucks... and it's sad. :(

I'd like to make some stuff... Glad that the LS1 coil setup is moving along.. JS makes the coil over fronts... ect... I'd like to see the parts avalibility grow...

What other products would guys be interested in?

The guy who's making the plate for me is going to make a upper intake plenum plate that I can make my own upper plenum from so I can balance the air flow inside the intake. The stock one has to be terrible!!!! the front cyls all get the air and the back two must not get much. I'm going to test that as well while mine is all apart.
Any other thoughts?
Thanks!!!! Scott~

Let us know what the final cost is and have a final pic for everyone to view. I am very interested for my dad's TY. Great idea.

Here is the plate my buddy made for me.I haven't installed it yet,so in the pics it's just sitting on there.

That looks nice. How will you install the plate, you know, with the heat and all? What will it cost to get one for the TY? Thanks.

If you mean me,it installs by the adhesive on the back.My buddy works for a helicopter place, and they use the same stuff in the copter engine area, and the stuff works great, and they make more heat than our trucks.I don't remember what he said he'd charge, but I doubt he has time anymore to make them.

Adam.... That's exactly what I want it to look like. That was the mental image I had in my mind.

You can bond it to the intake with 2 part epoxy. The heat on the upper plenum won't effect that.

Hope the one I'm having made turns out that nice!!! Great work by your friend!!!!!

Hope to be in the 50.00 area for the one's I'm having made with the epoxy to install.

Thanks for the pictures!!! Awsome!!!!!!

What specific brand/name epoxy would I use?Even though he said the adhesive works under extreme heat, that is mainly the reason I never installed it.I'm afraid of it coming loose, and getting in the fan/radiator or something.

Re: Typhoon Engine Plate: New product.

I'd be interested in two. Any chance they can make it with a ferous material to make plating easier and cheaper?

Just out of curiousity, is there a copyright issue when it comes to reproducing the SyTy logos? If so, how is it overcome?

Tooling costs via John Koss, who designed the intakes.

Re: Typhoon Engine Plate: New product.

I would suppose once the program is in the CNC that any metal that thickness would be able to be cut...

With the copy right issue... I think there would be proper channels to get it licenced through GM but since they have many other issues just staying in buisness as of latley a few Typhoon logo's on the intake might be last on their list of things to do.

I'll keep you posted on how he's coming with the setup..
Thanks for the interest... ~Scott
