If it comes down to the redline.....take a decent look at the Cobalt SS.....Same chassis, but a far superior style/feel IMO......Just a thought.

True. But, the main reason I like the Redline over the SS is the rear suicide doors, since I have a 2 year old I have to get in/out of the back seat. Let me tell you, its a real fun time getting her in and out of my GTO!!!!!!!!!

You are correct though, the SS has an overall better look to it.

my friend twin charged his redline....i'm sure he'll be selling the kits at some point, if he isn't already.

I think you'd be better off buying my STi.

I've heard of that. It sounds kick ass. How much boost does the turbo provide?? What did he have to do to the internals?

Thanks for the STi offer, but I doubt you want to give it away. ;)

$21k would take it. - cheaper than the redline after taxes. 32,300 on the clock right now.

I sat in a Redline at the Phila. Auto Show yesterday. Gotta tell ya, Saturn puts these things together with the crappiest quality plastics in the car industry. If you're looking for a small SUV, look at the Hyundai Tucson. Hate to say it, but the build quality seems far and away better than the Saturn and I think they are about the same price.

If money was no object, I LOVE the Mazda RX-8 with the suicide doors and easy-access back seats...I sat in the back and was completely comfortable. I'm sure my kids would be too.

I would agree that Saturn isn't known for Lexus-like interior materials. Although I do like the dent and scratch resistant body panels. (I sold a 99 Grand prix with 8 door dings!!)
When I test drove the ION Redline, even with the wierd plastics it still felt oddly solid with minimum noticable body flex (the salesman wasn't with me ;) ) I would have expected more flex due to the door configuration.
Still, I think the 2 L Ecotec is a solid foundation for making power with acceptable gas mileage. I can get one with the limited slip diff, airbags, MP3 jack, Recaro seats, painted wheels, and boost gage (no cheesy spoiler, please) for $19K with my employee discount.

I think the choice is becoming all too clear. Since I need a reliable DD I'll go with the Saturn.

Thanks guys!!!

Have you considered the Vue Redline?!?! AWD and a decently strong V6.....Possibly the best of both worlds?!?!

Yes, but still pricey even with my discount.

Yea I wasn't sure where that would've landed you on price.....I just knew they existed....and sounded like a decent alternative for you.....Sounds like you've narrowed it down pretty close to what you want already, so I'll go enjoy myself a nice big tall glass of shut up.

The redlines a nice car, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Buy a Cobalt SS S/C. Better looking (that the Redline), and broken parts aren't your problem :2cents:

2Kwik,
All you say is true. It is a great alternative. But since I am a poor SOB I gots to stay around the $20K mark. Thanks for your advice!!

I hear you on the poor SOB front.....I'm just climbing out of a hole of debt I created for myself......(I'm now saving for a Ty).....

I do have to say though my 4cyl-5spd S10 has taken a helluva beating and treated me REALLY REALLY well.....However with a lack of seats I don't think it would work all that well for you.
