Ultimate vs Code 59

Hey everyone,

I'm still learning a lot and reading up on these trucks so I need some guidance. What should i do? My build:
 Stock cast iron block, .030 overbore 267 cubic inches
 Crankshaft custom cryogenically treated and stress relieved
 Precision Balance on reciprocating assembly
 Eagle H-beam forged connecting rods
 TRW forged aluminum pistons (full floating pins)
 Speed-Pro plasma moly rings
 Federal Mogul severe duty engine bearings (3/4 groove)
 ARP 190,000 psi main and head studs
 Speed-pro high volume oil pump
 High performance roller camshaft (407/429 lift, 194/204 duration)
 Comp Cams roller tipped rocker arms (1.5: 1 ratio)
 Hardened pushrods
 Speed pro roller lifters
 Crane High performance valvesprings (matched to cam)
 Reconditioned heads w/three angle valve job
 Heavy duty roller timing chain
 Block clearanced for rods
 Premium OEM and felpro gaskets

I have put about 2k on the new motor with no tune, the truck originally came with a ultimate chip, which i still have.

With this build can i just plug in the Ultimate?? My engine builder says it could take up to a week or 2 to tune it properly. I am wondering if i should go another route Code59?? The truck is my DD until the winter, at which point I would like to start a more hands on learning process as I will not have to rely on it for my only transportation, considering the history/reliability of these trucks:lol:

Any info, opinions or thoughts or other options will be appreciated

Thanks again

Eric

Re: Ultimate vs Code 59

Try pming 10SECTY, he has tuned alot of sytys, he can set you up with a chip even custom tune it for your combo via e-mail, i would hate to see you kill your new combo with a bad tune, just my :2cents: link to Campbell automotive, http://www.campbellautomotive.com/mod.php?mod=userpage&menu=15&page_id=30 try giving him a shout 780-452-3535

Thanks for the link, something to definitely look into, but my current plan is to have my builder tune it. Wondering what direction to go, have the ultimate to keep the different tune settings or code 59 so I could eventually teach myself to tune it when I have time and money to add a larger turbo for example. I like the idea of being able to change the tune easily with the Ultimate. But since this truck is my DD I really don't want to leave it at the shop while it is tuned for a week or more. How good are custom tunes via mail??

Thanks
Eric

Re: Ultimate vs Code 59

As long as you have a good builder that is familiar building these engine and tuning these trucks i think you will be fine, if the truck is running good i think a tune can be done in a day as long as no unexpected issues arise, Many have had there's customed tuned via e-mail (by Nolan) and i don't think there is one person that regrets it, i think it starts with a base chip, then you log a few datamaster runs and he tweeks it from there, maybe he can chime in with more info

Ok. So I would need to buy the cable and software and hook it up to my laptop. Things i should have anyway owning one of this trucks from what I have read.

Re: Ultimate vs Code 59

the older ultimate chips for the stock injectors were not to bad,the 50 program was WAY off.

Re: Ultimate vs Code 59

The beauty of Code59 is he can tune it for you and then you can make adjustments later. Code59 is completely on the fly - you can't do that with an Ultimate.

You can also have multiple tunes with Code59 - you just can't do it with the flip of a switch.

Remember, the Ultimate has been around for along time. Lots has changed since then.

Re: Ultimate vs Code 59

Thanks for all the input guys, I really appreciate it. Seems like Code 59 is the way to go with the Moates remote switch could be a great replacement for the Ultimate. If I did go this route, what would I need to buy to get this up and running?

Thanks

Eric

That's a pretty nice piece. I didn't realize Moates had something like that.

Code59 for the win.
