Anyone own a SyTy here?

Got me a 1992 White/Grey Typhoon. I love this car but hate the fuel consumption. Anyone thought about putting in autogas?

Re: United Kingdom

i thought about autogas also (LPG), they got the same stuff in the USA octane is around 110, and it's about 50% cheaper as pumpgas.
bring that Ty to the netherlands, and we will install this into mine and your Truck, Game?

Re: United Kingdom

Dude,

that is a good idea, but if I came to Holland then I would take advantage of the coffee shops and then I would not have a career. :) Do you have any hot dutch friends (female?)!

110 octane rating though? Minimises knock ,and at E 6.13 per gallon/ E 1.40 per litre as opposed to HALF that for Autogas here there is a real incentive. How much does a conversion cost?

I am actually very close to a ferry terminal and have never been to Holland. Whereabouts are you? I am near Ipswich (Felixstowe).

A guy here has done it to he 2.3 ltr petrol Land Rover and he seems pretty happy. The fuel tank is quite large though, but that just goes in the boot/trunk/rear.

Have you looked into it much?

Damn, are you guys serious about this. You know when you buy a ty it's gonna eat fuel.
I got another option for ya, buy a smart and sell the ty.

Re: United Kingdom

i have been playing around with the Idea, the only bitch is that a certified shop has to do all the work, or else it becomes illegal.
the new systems work with a feulrail which injects the LPG under highpressure, (liqued, not gas).
they clame a performance gain of 10%, but with a blown car and 110octane, it's like racegas, and we can run more boost and timing.
the conversion would cost a few $ to do so, but it can become a daily driver with this mods.

i went to the UK 2 months back, and was in came in at your place.
located in the north east of the netherlands, and as far as the dutch female friends, bring some UK hotties, all the friends i know aren't singel anymore

Re: United Kingdom

hmmm.....

How much for the conversion then?

All Dutch are hotties though right? What were you doing in the UK? Next time you come through, give me a shout and I can maybe meet you. You prob know tonnes more about my car than I do by the sounds of it! What do you do by the way?

Boyd

If I wanted a practical car I would get a Ford Mondeo and pay 4 times as much than what my Ty cost me. It wil even out. I may move to the US once I am done and ship the car away back to its home.

I have heard that LPG causes real problems with turbos. If it is liquid into the cylinder then it must be either damn cold, or very high pressure no? Must cause some problems?

Re: United Kingdom

as far as the LPG, if you spray it in under high pressure, so it becomes liqued, you can tune it more easily, and you won't have a problem with this system.
the first LPG cars were mostly build with a fogger behing the carb. they had lots of problems, but with the new G3 systems, they won't be.
only thing i can think about is tuning. i'am no chip expert, so it would cost some time to tune it out.
i will do my best to find out about the prices.Maybe you and boyd can meet up, and drive to my place?

Cool - 3 Typhoons in Amsterdam! That sounds interesting.

Where is Renesse? I am coming over there in August I think. I am really busy until June at least.

Where do you have info on the systems? I am very tempted to install this system.

Re: United Kingdom

Boyd,

I am coming to Rennesse for windsurfing I hope! Where do you surf?

Rene - you surf/windsurf?

Am pissed about the car only managing 80mph. Does having no turbo affect the fuel consumption?

They're fun. You beat on their forehead a little and they begin thrashing about...bit of a joy really to try and hang on for the full 8 seconds like a cowboy on a bucking bull.

Yeah having no turbo is going to f*ck up a lot of things...My biggest concern about driving around with no turbo is if you have some sort of filter over the open intake? What kind of crap is flying into your engine?

The motors are around 8.5 compression so without a turbo they're going to be gutless wonders...additionally the computer is going to be going nuts not knowing when to add fuel and when not to...so 80mph sounds about right.

Why pray tell...do you NOT have a turbo on your truck? Maybe Rene can send you one.
