Unknown vehicle history

So I bought my Typhoon a couple years ago, under the assumption that it was never in a wreck. As I tinker, with it I am finding this to not be the case. I did run a carfax but that too showed no wreck history. I was told by the seller that the cladding was the only thing repainted.

Initial clues and frankly the most obvious: Paint is just too good to be original, and the hood is a bit different shade than the body. The bumper plate was buckled causing the bumper cladding to be a little warped. I fixed that early on by some hammer and dolly work, cutting bending back into proper shape and welding.

More recently I've found another less obvious clue. When installing the dutchty lower IC, I found the IC housing brackets tweaked and the OE intercooler buckled. I also found green overspray behind and above the driver side front fog light.

Another clue for me is the ABS unit. One of the connectors is physically burned, and it is electronically disconnected but not hydraulically bypasses. I think there was a catastrophic failure causing braking fail and one of the owners rear ended someone or hut something.

I have a stack of documents from the original owner, and some from the next owner, but nothing to suggest body repairs. Obviously that info could be easily omitted or removed,

Oh well, the truck drives straight and true, and there were never any out of the ordinary leaks. There is nothing to suggest salvaged title either.

Dont forget, there are often small accidents where people will pay out of pocket to fix the car instead of filing a claim. I think thats pretty common. May not explain your issues though.

Now your truck has AIDS, God forbid you decide to sell it. All the jerks on the board will reference this post. We eat our own kind.

"IF" I ever decide to sell it. I wanna be like Leno and all the other car hoarders. I am already kinda on the way to that, but my cars are pretty valueless, not priceless. :rotf:

You ain't kidding. It's a $3k truck at best now regardless of its condition

Is it odd that a rust bucket, non wrecked truck would out value a lightly tweaked totally rust free truck. I'd much rather deal with the comparatively easy items I have over frame and body rust, or one with major mechanical issues for that matter.

Don't get me wrong I know a fully wrecked, salvaged title truck changes things up very much in that equation.

Personally, I would go with a wrecked (no rust) truck over a rusted (no wreck) truck any day of the year.
