Upgraded Brakes

Re: Upgraded Brakes

Everyone and their Dad has upgraded brakes and I'm sure you'll get a different amount of boost at launch from every single person.

Re: Upgraded Brakes

I have stock front and rear and have seen well over 15psi out of the hole.

Going to LS1 up front and would like to do the conversion in the rear but am worried about the lack of clamping force the drums offer.

Does anyone have upgraded brakes and how much boost can they hold on a launch?

I'ts on my to do list. I'm happy for any of the replies also.

Thanks.

Re: Upgraded Brakes

Merk had a set from Stainless Steel Brakes (SSBC) on order, maybe he'll chime in with his findings...

Re: Upgraded Brakes

I got mine today. Cant give any feedback until I find a suiteable brake line. Stockers arent gonna fit from the looks of it.

Re: Upgraded Brakes

I have upgraded brakes, but my dad doesn't. I can hold about 10lbs of boost without pulling a Todd A which I love, not having to drop it in neutral first when I want to get a strong launch.

I upgraded mine. they will hold as much boost as you care to make, but the tires will only hold so much once you let go of the brakes.

Re: Upgraded Brakes

Comparing brake upgrades by how much boost thay will hold between two
different trucks and combos is foolish ! If your going to compare gains by
how mush boost “it will hold” it should be done on one truck. There are to
many variables to be comparing brakes this way.

So we don't all make the same horsepower and torque at the same level of boost? Shocking, next you'll try to tell me that we all run diffrent quarter mile times!

Actually, although we can't give useful information by telling someone how much boost we can hold with the upgraded brakes, the change from old to new should be a little more useful.

With stock front brakes I could only hold 2-3lbs without pulling a Todd A, now I can hold about 10lbs without pulling a Todd A using C5 brakes.

I'm doing the front brakes but am more concerned about the drum to disc conversion in the rear. I've heard that the drums have better clamping power and therefore allow for more holding power to build boost than even a good disc conversion can offer. So, if anyone has these before and after numbers on discs/drums that would be great.

Are you sure about that? I've seen plenty of Sy/Ty's start spinning the rear tires when doing boost launches. == Rear drums not holding as well as the front discs.

So what all was involved in getting those Brembos to work?

I've seen 18psi before my rears (drums) started letting loose. Now, I've also heard people not able to get 5psi with rear discs. This is why I'm asking. I want discs but don't want to give up the launch.
