$ Value of a Typhoon?

I am going to start looking at Typhoons. I am located in Southern California.

I have seen Typhoons go for as low as $5k-8k running to as high as $15k-20k mint condition low miles I guess. Is this a fair and accurate price schedule?

Sy's IMO, go for $10k with everything there 100k mi and faded paint, less if its missing parts, more if its better condition.

Am I close?

I was going to buy this Sy for $10k and decided I cant fit that great, so I would rather have a Ty.

I have $6k cash right now (and saving), towards this vehicle.

Keep in mind that a cheap truck will (90% of the time) have a LARGE maintenance bill if you want it running @ 100%. Be prepared to do most everything on the SyTy FAQ and new owner checklist, wherever the heck those things are posted these days.

Good luck with your search.

Thank you for the replies.

Smaug, I know about your project. I have read all of your recent posts (I see you on here everyday responding). I know you are in Jersey. If you were closer...we would prolly get together. As it stands, I doubt I will pay a $600+ tow bill for a car I cant physically see. But I am open for discussion (PM/link pictures, it would help get the ball rolling)

Jedi, I understand. You are obviously correct. The thought of large repair bills does not sit well with me. I would like a Ty in stock condition and the lower the miles the better (100k max preferred).

What do you think a Ty with 80k would go for in stock regular condition. 8-9 interior, 6-8 paint. $12K and up to as high as 15k? Thats my guess.

I wonder if I will take a bank loan for a Ty. I really dont want to...but I think a Ty is just right for me. If I do loan against it, it will be a MINT 93 I assume...

Just keep in mind, you get what you pay for. Like Tyler said if you buy a cheaper one with lots of miles, be ready to spend some money to getting/keeping it running right. Maybe try to find something in the middle, not a mint condition, not a junker, but a solid running truck that you can drive without having to put in a new tranny the first month you have it.
Also you might avoid a truck with lots of performance mods, you don't want one that's been driven hard allot.
As for the bank loan, if you have a good bank or credit union you shouldn't have too much trouble getting a loan for the "loan value" to the truck. That is usually a couple grand less than the retail value. Make sure they understand there is a difference between a Ty and an S-15 Jimmy :lol:
Good luck!

Tyler is right on...for the most part I believe that you get what you pay for....you're going to pay more for certain things like lower mileage, clean interior, exterior, good mods, knowledgeable owner....best advice in my opinion is be honest with yourself on numerous levels....first off how much do you want to spend??? Second...how fast do you want to go/what exactly are you looking for??? If you're looking for a really clean truck with a few good mods you're gonna pay upper teens....however, if you're ready to accept less in quality of some sort and put in some elbow grease you might get away with low to mi d teens....so be honest with yourself on what you are looking for and keep in mind that if you aren't a technical type/wrench happy guy you are most likely gonna be doling out some dough to fix/do what you want so it somewhat depends....being able to do your own wrenching is a real money saver, if you can't wrendh then you're gonna pay more for work so unless Brian Green and Rich Eartly are a good friend and you live in the Chicago area be realistic :wink: :drinking:
