Vin question?

Anyone ever run into the issue where the Vin in the door jamb does not match the vin on the dash? I tried to run the vin I got from the door and it was different from the one on the dash? Please let me know if you have ever run into this.

Re: Vin question?

The chances you will get a response should you post this question in more than one spot on the board go significantly south when people figure it out...

Door replaced after accident is my guess.

Re: Vin question?

As Ken mentioned, check the title vs. the top of the dash. If they match your cool and can assume the door was replaced with a LKQ (salvage yard/junk yard) door. You can also assume the vehicle was in an accident and the door needed replacement. If you do not know the collision history of the vehicle, you might find something on Car Fax but only if the incident was reported to Car Fax. If it shows and you see an insurance company listed, you can contact them and ask for a copy of the estimate. Might also be able to track the shop from the insurance estimate and call them to see if they have the file archived where they can pull it and provide a copy of the invoice from the supplier of the door. Any yard that sells a part has to list the vehicle VIN from where the part came from. Might be wishful thinking for some of these things but may be worth a try. Lastly, there are now companies that are legally reproducing VIN lables. Might be able to get a new one for the door.?
