Want to eliminate EGR - help please

I would like to eliminate the EGR on my Sy. I have searched this forum, and I understand that
there is a block off plate I can get, and also certain chips will disable the valve. I would like to block it off, and plug the vacuum line that goes to it (I guess). My questions:

Where can I get the block off plate?
What about the passage in the intake manifold, why do some of you plug it? If I just use a block off plate would I need to worry about the passage?

Blocking the passage keeps the exhaust gas completely out of the upper intake manifold which helps lower intake temps. If you just do the plate, the gas still gets all the way to the plate and heats the manifold up (but no gas gets into the intake tract). The plate by itself is still a worthwhile mod.

Ps. Not my auction. But that is what the plate looks like. There are others on ebay as well.

I just made my own block off plate with a piece of stiff tin. Cut it out with tin snips, drill the two mounting holes in it, grind the sharp edges off, paint it black and bolt it on with RTV or make your own gasket. Put some stainless steel bolts on it and it looks pretty good. A lot easier to get to the fuel regulator with that egr out of the way too.

Go with Hood... and he can also reburn you a chip so it doesnt see EGR anymore since your ECM is probably still sitting on the passenger floor, right? ;)

Next time Im down in Miami and you come over, if the ECM is hanging, im relocating that thing to the glovebox whether you like it or not :p

Thanks for the offer :) My ECU has been nicely tucked away in the glovebox for months. The Sy is still fairly clean and my pride and joy at Blake Cadillac/Chevrolet. It seems to run really well on the 117 octane C16 I drained out of my "race car".
I really appreciate all the much needed advice, and remember I still have a 10n1 chip that didn't work out so well. I might try using it again and resetting the fuses properly, or try to trade it for the Utimate.

I fabricated an OK block-off plate myself. It is made from a different metal than the intake. I think it leaks because of this. It makes a chopping (intake leak) sound on acceleration, and I smell oil. I removed the vacuum line and blocked where it came from with a screw. No check engine light and runs ok, but sounds bad and smells like oil. I hope the good block-off plate I ordered will fix this problem.

I just got the e-bay one in. Nice. Perfect fit and its over a 1/4 inch thick and comes with stainless alen screws and gasket.

Ever since I blocked off the EGR, my injector ticking which was only present at idle before, has gotten loud during acceleration. Is this possible? Isn't there a fix about loosening the fuel rail mounting bolts
and adjusting it a little higher. Also, as I said I smell oil on acceleration. With new PCV valves, what's happening to my truck now that I've eliminated the EGR? Thanks.

I can't help with your other issues but there is a GM TSB about the fuel rail just as you mentioned. It didn't improve anything on mine. What I've concluded (after reading enough other people's comments) is that the stock red-top injectors are excessively loud like a sewing machine, and it is typical, and will not go away as long as the injectors are in there.

I spent a fair amount of time chasing that noise, and mine would suddenly increase in volume like yours has (during acceleration), eventually I just considered it normal. Not saying that you don't have a different issue, but food for thought.

Update:
I installed a nice EGR block-off plate, and now there is no more "ticking sound" or oil smell under acceleration. I suppose the one I made was a different grade of metal and did not seal when things got warm?? Or it was as much of a POS as it looked like... anyway the engine is running great, I got the kit from Race Proven Motors and it's a nice piece. I tried many times from that other website, but the site was just not working. I also installed a breather at the hole in the valve cover that goes to the stock air box (I have a mushroom K&N now). After some thinking I decided that this would be ok to do. Now I am thinking about putting an identical breather on the other side to eliminate the PCV valves and all that nasty loose tubing that goes to the intake pipe. What do you guys think about this? After all, the PCV is a check valve that allows the oily gases in the valve cover to vent and be recirculated through the intake for emissions purposes correct? So a breather would allow the extra pressure to escape while simplifying things and preventing the hot oily air from having to go in the intake. (?) Or am I way off with this theory? Thanks.

No your fine with 2 breathers, thats what Waller told me to do and i've had no trouble other than the extra oil that ends up going through the PCV now just leaks on the valve cover and has to be wiped off.

Why would you want to prevent your pcv system from properly functioning? I mean blocking off or using breathers kinda throws the whole boost/vaccum operation of the pvc system out the window doesn't it?

I would have to wonder if the extra oil coming from your breathers is a sign of excessive crankcase pressures? Good thing you didn't just block it off because at least it's over flowing to your breathers because if you didn't have the breathers and just blocked off it would make leakage else where I would think.

I thought twice about deleting or sticking breathers on the pas side valve cover after searching the question out on this site so i'd suggest you research the answer before going thru with it especially if it's daily driven with a heavy foot like mine :)

I have a breather on the driver side and a hose going from the driver side to air filter. Can I delete the hose from driver side to filter???? I would leave the passanger side as is.
