Was wondering

As most of you know I was thinking of dropping a syty motor in my commodore.
Looking at the price and getting things changed and what have you seems to be cheaper just to buy one.
So I gotta ask how reliable are they? Do they make good daily drivers?
I found a place here that sells stuff for 4.3L but I imagine not for the syty specific.
Looking maybe a stock or very close to stock ride.
Any info and feed back would be great
thanks

Re: Was wondering

Reliablility depends on condition of the truck and how heavy your right foot is.

Cheryl has a bone stock Ty and a fairly small foot. She has very few problems.

I have a "modded" Sy and a size 12 foot. My truck doesn't run right now.

Re: Was wondering

Well hell thats great to hear... I drive like a grandma around here the speed limit here in WA Australia is 100KMH and out in the country is 110KMH.
So the truck will barely see 70MPH. Although I do like the occasional drag most of it done at the track. So if you have just typical problems with them then thats fantastic. Reliability is a is a big factor and are most of the parts from a 350 then so stuff to replace like bearings and stuff is pretty easy to come by.
Thanks T-56.

Re: Was wondering

350 and 4.3 parts are not universally interchangable even though they are both 4.00" X 3.48" engines. The 4.3 has a split-journal crank so the 5.7" rods and rod bearings differ greatly from a SBC. Mains, pistons, cam bearings, freeze plugs, oil pumps, valves, lifters, push-rods, head bolts, and many other things are in fact totally interchangable.

If you're going to use a syty as a daily driver, I'd keep a beater than runs around for when your truck (and it will) takes a crap.

I was stationed in Germany with a guy from Perth. He was USAF, nationalized when he was a teenager. Last I knew he was driving for generals.

Re: Was wondering

Thats it fellas I made up my mind. I'm going to talk the wife into letting get a TY instead of dropping 8K in the commodore. Going to be looking to buy one in sept one we go through settlement from selling some property out here.
After a shit load of reading through the site going to to be looking for one as close to stock as possible and doesnt cost an arm and a leg. After all a brotha still got to get shipped way out here Down Under.
