wastegates and regulators

was thinkin about putting an external on my ty and realize i have some options. been scoping out a tial 35mm, but would going to a larger (40, 46mm perhaps?) size be beneficial or a waste? what size would best suit my needs?

same thing with the springs that go inside of it. i can get a .95 bar spring then i can't adjust the boost limit lower than that right? so would there be any dissadvantage in having a really soft spring and have more adjustment to play with?

i plan on using a simple air regulating valve type controller to adjust the boost. i was told that it would be best to mount it in the engine compartment with the vacuum lines a short as poss. it would suck to stop and lift the hood everytime i wanted to adjust it. so what would be expected (in regards to boost control or whatever) if i opted for a cab mounted jobby?

which is better for the regulator and wastegate? a dual port vacuum line setup, or single port?

lastly and unrelated: will running the ultimate in "valet" save me gas? socal prices really suckin!

any input and all sugestions are welcome. thanks!

no, yes, no, no yes

up up down down left right left right a b start

go with as big a spring as you can - up to the lowest boost you'd run - if you want to run 22psi, control will suck if you are running a 5 to 10psi base setup.

regulator control will work ok on an external; i'd set it up in dual port mode. do some searching, we covered this pretty extensively just recently.

valet will not get you better mileage.

Someone posted a link to an off-brand "Boost Valve" that has a remote adjuster. The actual valve is in the engine bay, and there's a knob in the cab to turn to adjust it...

totally worthless post sorry. :)

I know why it is worthless!!

It is supposed to be: up down up down b a "select" start!

Now it should help

(I just realized I am a geek for rembering that  )

I recently finally go tthings right in the external set-up on the Supra. It has a .5 bar spring in it (Innovative Progate) and despite having an EBC that is raved about it's great control, when I get up around 15-18 PSI, it tends to oscillate very badly. That's barely over stock boost levels (though it's much more air thanks to large single instead of small twins). Anyway, I would never run the car on the rediculously low boost that the spring is at, so basically I agree that you need to get a spring that is as strong as the lowest levels you would want to run for control.

Oh yeah, and dual port set-up if you have a good source in the charge pipng/compressor side of turbo to tap from, single port if you are using manifold pressures.
