WBO2 - Actually Lean or Sensor

It's never enough
Seems to be the magical question for me. I keep reading mixed reviews running the search when it comes to the WB02 sensor. Some people say the sensor needs to be re-calibrated some say they automatically calibrate themselves. So which is it? Or is it model specific?

I'm running the older version of the M-300. Seems kinda silly because last year or the year before I would get a wide range of readings on the display. "Air" "Rich" "Lean" never really saw "Knock" but you get the idea. Lately the readings only fluctuate from about 14.1 to 15.2 and they never stray outside. Kinda makes me nervous to stand on it because I don't know if what I'm reading is accurate or not.

Even when I open the cutout (which is actually geographically north of the WB02 sensor) the A/F might go to 15.2 to 15.5. If that was the case where the cutout was open and exhaust isn't circulating past the WB02 sensor as aggressively wouldn't I get a dramatically different A/F reading on the display versus when it's closed?

Cutout open or not I think the readings are too plain jane and I got a bad sensor. But how do you actaully know the sensor is bad if you don't have a spare lying around?

Thanks in advance

Mine jumps around too, but it also follows my rpms jumping around at idle too. Are your rpms jumping around at idle or are they pretty steady?

I mean it's not a flat reading at idle. It'll move around at idle but not much.

Mine does the same thing. I put a new sensor in my 300 every year. They seem to go bad when they sit. They act real lazy and read lean when they go bad

Well... I pretty much always run race fuel and my truck does not get driven that much and moisture sits in there. So for the 50 bucks I don't take a chance.

Re: WBO2 - Actually Lean or Sensor

Go the the parts store and get the VW Bosch sensor replacement
I've returned alot of defective bosch sensors throughout my years and recommend a denso sensor if available....alot of oem manufacturers use them.:tup:just my :2cents:....maybe that's why they have issues every year if you use bosch.

Denso? Got a link or part no.?

Never had issues with anything Bosch made. Again my truck sits and most of the time I run race gas.

Re: WBO2 - Actually Lean or Sensor

This is the only problem with all these parts in general. This one is three times the cost of the Bosch I may one to try out.

Note: Denso partners with other manufacturers to supply the parts your car was originally built with. This product is in a Denso package, however the part may have been manufactured by an independent Denso supplier.

Re: WBO2 - Actually Lean or Sensor

The sensor is picking up the rich/lean condition that the computer is telling it in closed loop. So it should read rich then lean rich then lean. There is a swing count that tells you when it crosses over the 14.7.If you take it out of closed loop into open loop it will read more consistant..

Under WOT/boost if your readings were 15.2 your motor would be toast.
You probably have something up with the sensor or the wiring to the sensor. Check your ground as well.
Look at tuner pro or some sort of diagnostic and see if its the same as well.

Re: WBO2 - Actually Lean or Sensor

We put a new Bosch Replacement WB sensor in yesterday and that solved the problem.

Seems a lot of guys posted the part no. is 17014 which it actually was not (atleast for my model) a 7 year old discontinued PLX M-300. But I lucked out because I brought the original into Autozone which the guy tried to cross reference and couldn't find anything so just let me walk back and look through boxes with him until we found a connector that matched (17018).

Either way I'm still going to get a Datamaster. Long overdue.
