Weird electrical problem...

I haven't posted in awhile, haven't driven the 'phoon very much because of 1 million things going on. But things are settling down a little. I had a local mechanic put a new turn signal switch in my truck...and to my surprise and dismay, now my dash gauges don't work...but the wierdest thing is, when you turn on the headlights, the buzzer for "key in the ignition" comes on, with varying sound with the dash light dimmer. So it's finding a ground somehow through the buzzer, but I'm stumped as to where it could be coming from, or what ground is loose. The turn signals DO work fine, but all of the gauges (except the gas gauge) are dead. Any ideas? Anybody have similar problems?

sounds like the headlight warning buzzer... which means, i should think, that there's a bad contact in your ignition switch itself and it's not connecting / disconnecting that circuit.... :2cents:

You may check the harness plug-in to make sure they are plugged in right. I can't remember which one, but one of the plug-in can be off one slot.

Check the ground wie that is under the dash on the left side. It`s a #10 and black.

I'm betting it is a groung left undone. Didn't you check the guy's work before you drove it home? I think he should warantee the work. Just my thoughts.

Ya, I found out about it as soon as I started it up. But I figured that if the guy wasn't smart enough to tell himself, I didn't want him poking around my truck any more. He put the switch in, and it worked, which saved me a lot of time and frustration...I figure whatever electrical problem it is would be better solved by me...that being said, I'm starting to see why people do ALL of the work on their trucks themselves. Most "mechanics" just are knuckle-dragging thugs that don't care what my truck is. And I say this from the standpoint of having worked in several garages at an earlier point in my life. I don't want to demean the non-knuckle draggers out there, or the knuckle-dragging but non-thugs....:)

Re: Weird electrical problem...

It was the fuse for the gauges...under the dash. Evidently the other wiring that does my boost controller and such was allowing it to ground. In any case, replaced it, and now it works! Yay! I can get back to fiddling with fuel tables!
