Well update

So i took the crank to Machine shop today and the guys down there are telling me my motor was starved for oil. The bearings were getting to hot. Im like wtf. I have a Melling M55 that i know people have problems with but mines not broke in half or anything. So whats a good replacement with out spending an arm and a leg. I do not want to do this anytime soon again. I just want to drive the flipping truck. I have owned it for almost 3 years and have only driving it for 2 weeks total. and every time i start saving up for a new paint job something like this pops up. So Opinions are welcome.

Re: Well update

What was your oil pressure before the tear-down? Sounds to me like there might be an internal oil leak not allowing full pressure to reach the crank and, in turn, the rods. Which bearings were fried? Rods, mains, both?

Make sure on this build that you do a full oil pump prime and pressure test before starting.

Re: Well update

it was just the Mains that were fried, And i did a prime before it fired up i think the mains wernt tightened to specs, Oil PSI was good Peged gauge and sounded good

How do you miss tightening the mains??? Yikes.

I'd still suspicious of something different. (Just my nature I guess.) If the rods were fine then wasn't there enough oil? Usually if the mains are starved then the the rods go first. I'd almost bet that the wrong bearings were installed. Oh well, just babbling it's over and I've got to many questions.

No problem, Like i said it only had 300 miles on it and i had the Machine shop Assemble it do to i was on a time limit, I don't know what to think but i know im going to replace the Oil Pump with a HV and inspect everything, The Crank will be done on Wed and i should be reassembling it by this weekend. I hope at least. And any Questions feel free to ask i don't care

Re: Well update

Think Ill throw my :2cents: in here. When my machine shop screwed me and my truck started knocking, I had perfect oil pressure, It was all the way up to 80psi when I would start it up and it would knock like a mo fo. So i dont think that psi tells you much unless over time you watch it go down. Im saying that just because you ahve good pressure doesnt mean there is not a screw up. Just make sure you tighten your caps and hopefully youll be good.

Re: Well update

The thing that really pisses me off is the Machine shop knew about the casting problems with the M55 and he still put it in there. I didn't pay attention to the receipt when i got it back i just assumed that it wasn't that pump. Anyway after reading the post about the comments that melling said about not covering it i pretty much got screwed, Well all i can do now is just spend the money to fix it and forget how i got screwed, Anyway im waiting on my Camera Batteries to recharge and ill go out and take the oh so usual pics of were it broke.

Re: Well update

well i went out to snap a couple of pics before the Batteries died but was only able to get 1 pic, And as soon as i picked up the pump the crack in the pump decided to let go the rest of the way. So its now in 2 pieces, Anyway heres the pic i got off before it died. And low and behold it snaped in the same spot the others did.

Re: Well update

Sorry man, I've been through what you are experiencing and its very frustrating.. As much as I hate melling there isn't too many choices out there so go with the M-Select pump this time around.

Re: Well update

Well to get the crank turned and all checked out was $65 the bearings were about $80 the new pump is $75 and then theres fluid and gaskets, And MY Time to do it all. So i figure about $300, all said and done. And thats only cuz i cought it soon enough. I should be able to have it back on the road by next weekend.
