Well it has come to this point in my life since I can't sell it FIX IT MORE.
I have got to set some goals and put money back for those goals. I have in mind what I want to do performance wise as I have reasearched that but building a motor is a different world that I don't know alot about. I have very well inclined mechanic friends that are willing to help but I have to bring the info to them on what needs to be done and with what parts. Example I say I need new rods and pistons they say great what kind? I know the recipe calls for trw rods and je pistons but more info is needed. What do I need to do. Or are there steps to be taken? Is a machine shop involved. I want to run the 50# setup BG has been working on and run consistently below 11.5's breakin a 10 everyonce in a while. I am somewhat stock have about 90% of the 12 second recipe done with 122k miles. I am not going to be doing this overnight. Spending $5k takes about a year for me so I have to do this in stages so that I can continue to drive the monster. I guess what it comes to is a list of parts with specs like lift and rotation of cams and stuff I don't know about. The cc of Pistons if there is a such thing. THANK YOU!

Hoo-ha! Man, I would definitely advise against rebuilding the SyTy engine as your 'first engine'. Way too much to learn, whole lot can go wrong; these mills are stressed to the max. If you want to do it partway, buy a scrap 4.3 engine - $100 or so - , collect all the internal goodies & have a *good* engine guy put it all together for you.

FWIW.....even PRO built engines can go sour.....

Ok so Basically I am gonna have to take my Ty half way across the country, fly home, get the motor rebuilt, and then ship it back? Or pull the motor ship it to Mccoys and then ship it back? One more question I know the rule of thumb is don't fix it till it's broke right. Well should I wait till the motor just shits or what?

Im rebuilding my Typhoon's mill as my "first engine"...dont let anyone dissuade you from doing as much of the work yourself as you feel comfortable. If you have a lot of time and motivation and not a lot of money then buy some books, ask lots of questions, and have fun.

Imagine the rush you're gonna get if you do it yourself? That is gonna be worth it to me more than anything else.

If I get it right :)

Ok so If I start this process then the first thing is gotta find a block. What did you do? I know it has to be a vin z so the syty block is the only option?

I can't tell you much about rebuilding an engine, but the standard TBI 4.3L is the Z engine. Just so you know that finding a Z block doesn't guarantee it's a SyTy. I'm not sure what the differences are for the SyTy block, if any...

Im not sure there's a 4.3 block you *can't* use. Older blocks can have a modified lifter valley (it's the only difference I can find in mine - and the caps are the same too). Newer blocks have a balance shaft, which doesnt appear to be a detractor necessarily, and provides the benefit of smoothing things out a bit.

Someone else can chime in on any other variations you should be concerned with...

AFAIK, the syty's block is the same as all the 4.3 blocks at that time. The syty block had modular main caps, but IMHO it can be found in other blocks from the same era as well. The newer code 'W' blocks have a balance shaft and the 'X' code blocks have the balance shaft too, and the block itself is different too. I'd go for a 'Z' code block...
