Re: What did you do to your SY/TY today?
Packed it
checked tyres
retightened the wheel nuts
checked oilk
drove it 220km!!! All going well....a little too well....
2km from the port I stopped at a light. When the light went green, the car wouldn't move. It felt like the brakes had seized so I put the hazards on and had a look.
One wheel was turning so I dragged the other off the road to take a closer look. I jacked it up, took the wheel off and found:
(pic to follow when I upload it)
The pass side C5 caliper had lost one bolt completely and the other was barely in. If that had gone, would I have lost the wheel?
As it was, the caliper was wedged against the brake disc and the wheel was seized. I was able to loosen it but I am worried that the caliper is bent irreparably. Not a cheap fix.
Thankfully a guy stopped and he took me to a garage where MIRACULOUSLY the guy had the right size and length of bolt for the spindle to the caliper (sadly the wrong grade so I have to repace it

). I borrowed some wrenches and went back to the truck.
I was amazed to find that the reason he stopped was because he recognised the clasic nature of the car and knew all about it - cool Dutch guy or what!
The recovery vehicle arrived just as I was fitting the calipers/discs back on the car. He lent me a spanner and waited to see if the fix worked.
I drove the 2km to the shippers and dropped the tools off with the guy.
FInally, I parked it and registered it with Dutch customs.
My Typhoon is getting on a boat on 20 May and is being shipped to the USA
So, in summary -
I shipped my truck to the USA!!!
