Re: What did you do to your SY/TY today?

After working on some ac boxes I trimmed out this hood a little more so it will sit properly once the hinge mounts are put on it . I only have the front lip to trim and then its air inlet director for the bottom side of it to install when i do the mounts . Final plan is for it to end up where an atr box sits so the ram air is functional . Im slowly getting there .

Thought about how much I'm not looking forward to replacing the starter. Takes 3 attempts to get it going

i installed my ty/bravada mirrors. i went to the salvage yards today and found a set of the rubber gm floor mats and cleaned and dyed them black.

I also got a score on a cd player out of a 99 chavy malibu to only find out it's a tad too long for the sy:rant:

The cdplayer/radio works great too.

Pulled my truck into SyTyArchive's garage and got some help swapping out a bum starter to a new one I got from Jas at Nats. Finally, after a year of clicking and dealing with a bad solenoid, my truck starts right up.

I guess the other day when I had to hit the starter with a hammer, I hit it a bit to hard. I was starting to rain and of course, it wouldnt start. Pulled out the hammer and starting beating it to get it to turn over. I found a small piece of metal in the driveway yesterday and wondered where it came from. Found out today crawling under the truck. I busted open a hole in the starter housing :rotf:

Started to help Ian yank his leaky valve cover off to change the gasket. Got the cover off, and Ian is trying to figure out if he wants to put his RPMs back on, or put the plastic vortecs he just swipped off my shelf instead.

Oh yeah..under the truck, I noticed my pass side CV boot is ripped....so I'll be posting back up in here shortly.

after a full tune up yesterday the p.o.s wont start. figured out its either the coil or the distributor module.

well i finshed up the bravada mirrors and then worked on installing a gm cd player from a donor 99 chevy malibu that i scored from the pick a part for 16.50

man my truck looks dirty but's wet from being outside and it started raining

I had to take a heat gun and heat up the A/c duct work and make room for the radio. i then had to fab up some mounting brackets. but it looks great.

i also found some floor mats at the pick a part and dyed them black to match the int. The driver's side is still a little tacky in the pic.

this pic show some shadows that are not there in real life

this mat is still tacky hence the shiney look.

Yep, as adam said above, swapped out my driver's side valve cover. I ended up using his Vortec cover. I like em alot, not as bad ass looking / racey as the RPM's, but I do like the better gasket arrangement.

I'm not sure if I'll powder coat them and reinstall, or just swap to the vortecs.

Drove it to the store with my wife and had to go back for another shopping bag because 1 fell apart before we got out of the parking lot :rotf::rotf:. She really want me to get a GT and a Typhoon now.

Well, my DD Porsche 944 took a dump, so the Ty is now DDD (designated daily driver). It's been 100+ for weeks (duh... Texas). A/C in the Ty has been pretty weak for a while. So, the Ty got an AC makeover. She's blowin cold now! Of course the daily highs immediately dropped into the high 80's (you Texans can thank me and my busted knuckles for that!).

Suzy homemake tip of the day: NAPA sells a repair kit to use when your orifice tube gets clogged and hi-pressure forces it so far down into the evaporator pipe that you can't get it out. $22. Cool (pun intended).

I finished up an abs delete, replaced the oil pressure switch, and replaced the distributor.

Bombed down the TB and intake with carb cleaner, and accidentally got my TV cable adjusted correctly....apparently it had one more click to go this whole time! No wonder it was shifting late and hard  Now it idles nice and smooth and shifts where it should. :woot:

Swapped out my pass side CV axle tonight then had to grind down the end so that the wagon wheel center cover would go on.

Nothing exciting happened during the swap...fought a bit getting the old one out (just gotta know the right angle to push and shove), new one went right in without any probs. Truck is back on the ground, ready to roll.

For my Typhoon, last weekend:

Cut and welded downpipe to fit. Bought it years ago and would not fit right with KB headers. Also welded on oxygen sensor bung. Bought a test pipe flange from RPM. Had muffler shop make a cat test pipe by welding on bracket and shaping ends. Had to be 33" long to fit from downpipe to cat back exhaust. Installed the pipe. Very close fit but had to disconnect ATR exhaust and reinstall. Did not reinstall the original bracket from the frame to the test pipe flange. Will see if it matters.

This week so far:

Put non ac blower motor housing in place. Lots of wires to move around. Didn't think it would fit at first.

Installed RPM ac delete pulley. But have Brodix heads that only have one tapped hole on outer passenger side. Fabricated bracket for RPM pulley using parts of the original GM bracket rather then tap the head. Took forever to find the fan pulley. Turned out to be at the shop where the Ty was left for the last six years. Also had to reinstall the power steering pulley (borrowed a tool).

Found a -AN adapter for turbo oil feed. Cost $1.50. Installed between stock oil feed line and ITS turbo

Made and welded a exhaust tube to the flange of my ITS external wastegate and installed the wastegate to the KB header x-over. Boost controller not installed yet. However, did make sure enough room for a2a.

Tried to figure out what all those unconnected wires are for in the engine bay. Some for ABS which has been deleted, Others to the heater box. There are a bunch more that i could not id. Glad we have the Syclone to look at. Too many years have gone by.

Looked at instructions for a2a system install. Will fabricate bracket from a2a tube to throttle body so it does not blow off.

Also looked at instructions and syty adapter wiring for FAST system that i bought seven years ago. Have to use FAST injector harness as well as o2 sensor harness. Going to require splicing.

I pull my drivers valve cover and figured out TDC, put my distributor back in properly. It fired right up, I set intial timing to 0 degrees and I took my truck for its first drive around block since the 4th of July 2006

Gave my new engine its second oil change at 275 miles. I'm still using 30w dino oil, and the engine is still running good.
