What did you do to your SyTy today? (part 2)

Re: What did you do to your SyTy today? (part 2)

Removed the left (drivers) cyl head looking for a blown gasket. You'll recall awhile back the truck started pressurizing the cooling system. My diag, as best as I could tell, using a leak-down tester and putting 60# of air into the cyls that it was #3. Well the gasket looks fine. (I've never blown a Cometic, even after reusing them) I'll take the head to the machinist tomorrow to have it checked for cracks before I tear the other side apart. Rather not but will if I have to.

Nice to see the cyls in such good shape. Hone marks are still there.

Looks like everything is going to work. Just got to make a 3/4 spacer ring to finish it up. This will allow the trans to use the stock crossmember loation. Weight 113lbs

If you are really planning to have this done by the end of summer you may want to consider getting your pan made elsewhere. I tried to order one through them and he said it would be a 4 month turnaround......

Update! It's plastidip so original paint still under the plastidip
Nevermind the plasti-dip... that Dyno is taking me back! My buddy had that exact bike in black about 30 years ago! Love it!

Threw on my freshly refinished HM2's with some new lugs, and then promptly lost the lug key ... not my day today.

Tomorrow... window motors and hinge pins :shoot:

Since my heads won't pass muster anymore I picked up 2 Vortec "take offs" for 2 bills delivered. They're already at the machinist for stripping, tanking, and magging. News at 11:00. May not be the best deal out there but it was quick and easy. As long as they check out OK...

Nice wheels. Sorry 'bout the key but it's still funny. I loose tools all the time only to find them after I don't need 'em anymore.

haha thanks Don! Some day it may be worth pulling the motor out of this thing just to get back all the tools I've dropped in the engine bay. Every time I drop something it turns into a game of "Plinko" hoping it falls through to the ground so I don't have to waste more money on tools. 9 times outta 10 it doesn't. Fortunately a replacement lug key was only $7. I think I just pulled a bonehead move and left it on one of the lugs before I took it for a test drive. Too many things going on at once and not paying attention as usual. After 11.5 years, this is finally starting to become a respectable Typhoon.

That looks great. Can you please share some information on what was necessary to install the front wilwood brakes. Also if you can share the part numbers of the calipers i would appreciate it. Its driving me a little crazy trying to put together the item list. Thanks

Wilwood GM D154 Brake Calipers 140-12097-R - Free Shipping on Orders Over $99 at Summit Racing

They are a bolt on, no mods nessesary!
Mine are the twin piston. They offer both single and 2 piston.

So i already have the camaro brake upgrade. I want the dual piston calipers like yours, so if i understand correctly summit sells wilwood dual piston for our trucks that dont need any modifications? Sorry really looking to put in a purchase soon and dont want to order wrong part. Thanks

Re: What did you do to your SyTy today? (part 2)

I only see a single piston offered by Wilwood. Is it for a 2nd gen conversion?
UPDATE:
If you go into their caliper search, it is there
Caliper No: 120-11872-RD

So, it is a bolt on?

Re: What did you do to your SyTy today? (part 2)

Did a lil tab repair today, although my method differed slightly from the one on How-tune... rather than hold the tabs in place with masking tape, I glued them with instant glue first. If you're not familiar with this stuff, this is easily the best super glue you can get. I use this stuff for everything. It's really thin too, so as long as the surface is scoured a bit, it will work it's way into every little crevice and bond to it. Once you have the piece where you want it, you hit it with accelerator and it dries/hardens instantly.

I got all the tabs glued into place and then mixed up the 3m epoxy. The How-Tune write up called for 3m plastic spreaders, but those looked a little too big to really get in there and spread this stuff around, so I opted for those small brushes you use for rubber cement... got a few 5 packs at Orchard for $1.59ea. I'm pretty curious to see how this stuff holds up. I'm going to let it cure for a few days before I put it back on. But here's what I ended up with... It doesn't look like it in the pic, but I put 3 layers of epoxy on each tab... which may or may not be overkill, but I really do not want to do this again, so I'd rather overdo it. I also got some big washers to use with the screws that hold the tabs on, so all the mounting pressure isn't concentrated in that one little area.

These trucks really are a never ending project... boredom is a luxury when you have a SyTy.
