What did you SM Lower Intercooler owners do with your coolant level sensor?

What did you SM Lower Intercooler owners do with your coolant level sensor? For now I left mine off.

I would think it's tied somehow straight to the intercooler pump relay so if it's low coolant the pump relay wouldn't switch, but I have my relay perma grounded anyways now. Ultimately I'd like to get a fitting that would retain it and remove the perma ground, but that would be something custom I'd have to 3D model and get fabb'd. Prob too expensive. I thought maybe there's a sensor that just fit in those threads with a screw end, and just cut the old one off and put an eyelet on. Would be nice.

I think it just threw a light on the dash. I thought there was another writeup about it, but only found one.

Aaah yeah. I remember that thread. The boost cutout relay. It doesn’t apply to me anymore since I’m using a boost controller with its own solenoid, but that light would be cool to have.

Something like this is what I was thinking maybe we could use:9155DFFE-3BA2-453E-A873-92BD7A601996.jpeg

That light never worked, the one wire plug on the lower intercooler was a temp sensor
No, it wasn't.

It was a probe that conducted or not based on coolant level. With the probe submerged in coolant, resistance was low. With the probe dry, resistance was high. The state of the probe was interperted by a module that controlled the dash light and boost relay. For some reason, this module was never installed in the SyTy.

This exact system was used in tens of thousands of GM cars of the era. C4 Corvette, F-Car, and Northstars were some of them.

Gonna play with this project when I have the time, but I got ‘88 “NOS” (BS) module and used pigtail. It has scratches on the A C E F contacts so it’s NOT “NOS” 😄 Looks OK though. No burns or discoloration.

A: 12v IGN (Pnk/Blk next to FP Relay)
C: GND
(Cut Green sensor wire on 3 pin connector)
E: Grn wire To Engine
F: Grn wire To Sensor

Sounds simple enough. (y)

Anyone know the thread size for level port? I think I can make this out of 5/8” aluminum rod and my mini lathe. I have everything but the rod and a thread die, both I should be able to get locally.

NM I have the intercooler out to install silicone hoses this weekend. Looks like M10, so RIP 1/4" NPT adapter. The petrooster is 1/4" NPT. Figures.

EDIT: Something like this:

Done. New OEM fan clutch, Dyed my Astro fan black too, new coolant lvl sensor, every int hose replaced with silicone hoses, all clamps new Norma silicone friendly clamps. I was hitting 15.1 PSI back to back to back no probs with the new pump and intercooler. Now it should be even more reliable for YEARS. Super happy with this setup. (y)

Let me know if you locals want to come pickup the Hayden clutch or Dorman black metal fan! I'll throw them out next weekend if not.20230513_153524.jpg

Did you order the silicone hoses and clamps online? If so what brand? Any hoses I've tried out have been pretty crummy quality.

I got the hose from Amazon. Just search “Flexfab 3/4 silicone hose”. Flexfab is the same company that made our original upper intercooler to intake union hose. The clamps I got from Belmetric.com. Search on their site for “CR32”.
Both are very nice quality. If I had the money I would have tried the Flexfab higher ply Green hose. The Blue single ply is super soft, not puncture soft, but easier to fold soft so you gotta be careful you don’t make super tight turns.
