my typhoon is completely stock. i want to make it an 11 or 10 second truck while still being street legal. i have about $8,500 to work with. is this possible with this amount of money? even 12 second would be better than stock which i believe is 14.1 at sea level. im in CO so it will take some work, i know.

i cant find it... but there is a spread sheet on here somewhere
that outlines what is needed to get to certain ETs etc
it lists parts and or engine work needed..

11's should be attainable with that amount of money.
The problem will be, once you start going that fast, you'll probably start having other problems like trans, propshaft etc.
First, you should do all the safety mods. (12 sec recipe). That should run you about a grand.
Then I would say the easiest way to go would be to get a bigger turbo w/3" dp, alky kit, torque convertor and the most important part: a good tune. You should be able to get into the 11's with the above, but like I said it will cost you in other areas.
The above parts would be about $3k, but if you need them installed that would cost you too. After that, I'd start paying attention to the trans and suspension.
Check out various members builds and you'll get an idea of what works.

I hate to not be optimistic but 15,000 for low 11 high tens is the min. just depends on how many times you want to run that fast. 10 sec long block 7,000 10 sec trans 6,000, fuel system 1,000 and then thares the tunning !!juicepal said:

I have the trans
You could put all that into the motor and make about 2 runs before your trans hit the floor if your are lucky. For that amout you could have a nice strong 12 sec truck that will last a while.

The Ty's are harder to get there than the SY's. Not to many Ty's in the tens and will more than you will want to fork out to get it there and be able to keep it there even for a while. This is from someone who has been there. Shoot for high 11s, save your $$ and your truck! Good Luck!!

if you beat on the truck the stock 700r wont last. Even a built one wont last forever. It will only take about 3-4k to get the engine into 12's. 1-2k on some suspension stuff. that would leave 2-3k to rebuild a solid 700r. theres a difference in getting 12's and being a solid 12 truck.

what is the stock 700r? sorry i know nothing about cars trucks or anything really..... never worked on a car except changing brakes and oil. for a 12.5 second car should i get the mitsubishi upgrade turbo or stay stock? how much does this cost and all the other add onms im talking about cost? i am reading these from the file that js manufacturing posted. cylinder heads? cam shafts? fuel pump? thanks for any help guys!

20g turbo upgrade is possible with tuning. You probably wont listen but tuning should be numero uno. Check out these:

I thought Buick Grand Nationals were expensive.. Sy/Tys put them to shame when it comes to cost of a build. :rotf:
I'm trying to make our stock transmission hold up for at least this year. :roll:
But I'm betting we'll break it at the Nationals ... Just our luck :lol: Nothing like winning

I'd upgrade everything but the engine first and then pick up a block and build it as you have time and money. The stocker will take you far if you don't push it's limits and have as every one stated and the most important of all A GOOD TUNE. Seen pleny of the best parts installed on Buicks and since the tune is off they run like crap. Same here in the Sy/Ty world.
With your spending money you'll be well on your way.

50# injectors, 50#ultimate, pt61, 3200 stall, built trans, alki injection, and the stock motor with a good tune. And your in the 11's. ask me how I know.
