What does it take to beat an LS1 in the 1/4???

Truckless. For now.
New here, so take it easy on me . I hope to be a new Ty owner in a week, as I stated on another post, and I'm glad I stumbled across this forum and this post. There are a lot of good arguments on both sides, and some silly things said. Kudos to those of you who drive 'em daily, and kudos to those of you who will preserve those rare beautiful specimens of Sy's and Ty's. Each to his own.

Just one more question...Who's going to be harder on it...the daily driver? or the weekend racer/stoplight racer? just curious as to your opinions.

in reference to reliablity don't the LS1s have the dreaded opti-puck problems, both my 93 z-28,& 96 ta, had these problems one had 99,000 oni t the other had 25,000 miles when this happened, also 6hours to change plugs & wires, both ran strong have to admit that, but the ty i gives you more of a wow ride, am i really doin 65mph that quick!!

Nope, opti-spark went the way of the dinosaur's in 1998 when the LS1 debued in the F-body. The LS1 uses 8 individual coil packs that are controlled by the PCM. No issues there, infact I have seen several LS1's with 100k plus and no mechanical problems. The major drawback on these cars is the clutch (see sig, I had to replace mine at 19k) and the rear ends. Whatever possed GM to build a car with 350 ft lbs and put a super cheesy 10 bolt in in it I will never know.

To the guy who apologized, no hard feeling. Just some miscomunication from both ends.

To everyone, thanks for the replies, and keep em' coming!!

More of the same from me. My Sy is a daily driver, and I've been driving it this winter too, so I'm not going to tell you that you can't do the same.

Regardless of the truth, you did kind of come off that you wanted a SyTy to use as a fun winter vehicle because it had the power of an F-body, plus AWD. While that is true, there are a lot of things going against them. Just browse through the Repair forum and see how many people are having weird problems they've spent forever chasing down. Look at how rare/expensive some of the parts are. As was mentioned by myself and others, the cladding especially.

If you're looking for something fun that can handle rough weather, the SyTy is probably one of the best. However, buying one specifically to use for bad weather probably isn't the smartest.

Yup. Going to CSU. I actually live in Pagosa, but Colorado all the same.

Going to look at the Ty on Saturday. Try studying for a test with that on your mind. LOL Not easy.

Cool. Where's the Ty at? Don't worry I won't steal it, I got my Sy already. I looked at a Ty in Highlands Ranch before I got the Clone, but the kid was kinda a punk, and tried to play me for more cash after we agreed on a price....

the Ty is in Tempe, AZ. Long drive to look at it. I'm 99.9% sure I'm gonna pick it up. Price seems fair, given the condition and extras. I leave tomorrow to head that way. Hope to pick it up Saturday afternoon. Sad thing is, the Vette has to go to make room. Here's a pic...or 2... direct link doesn't work, so copy and paste the addy:
