what rods are these?

I pulled apart the thought-to-be-stock block and found some goodies. Can anyone tell me what rods these are? They dont look like eagle h beams or stockers, I don't know what else to look for. I don't see any markings on them either other than the cylinder #s someone etched into each one. Thanks

at a glance, it resembles a Manley Forged I beam....or some other high end I beam rod...nice piece actually....check the rod bolt. Usually on the more expensive rods, the name of the manufacturer is engraved in them instead of ARP. If it says ARP, it could be a lower end brand like CAT or SCAT.

Yeah it says ARP oliver on the bolts. All I see on the rod as far as markings are the bearing markings.

I was kidding of course. Keep them for your rebuild. They are hard to come by today. If fact they kind of became scarce recently.

Yep... they sure look like Oliver rods to me also. I'd be willing to bet that's what you got there for sure.! Awsome.. won't be breaking them soon.

well badass thats 1 less thing to buy. anyone know the retail for these? why would someone use these with trw's?

"Back in the day" Trw pistons was the perferred choice. SRPs weren't heard of and JE don't make a "shelf" heavy duty turbo piston. Trw pistons are heavier but as tuff as anything out there. Other than a few ricers, we and GN's were the main turbo groups.

Your motor was probably put together in the late 90's. Be sure to check your crank. There were forged cranks floating around. Even strokers were less scarce than today. Typically people were using the Olivers on the stronger cranks.

One of the easier ways to check a forged crank is to look at the forging line on the crank throw adjacent to the journal. The cast cranks will have a small thin casting line going down the middle of the throw and the forged crank will have a wider, smoother forging line....also, if you stand it up and tap the counterweight with a hammer, it will sing like a tuning fork if its steel.
