I have a set of 18" C5 wagon wheels and need some tires for them. What size tires would you guys recommend? Remember, this truck does NOT have any cladding on it so it looks like a normal Jimmy.

275/40/18
275/35/18
285/35/18

Im looking for low cost for now as Im trying to save money for other areas of the build at the moment.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I guess there really isnt a cheap 18" tire... hmmmm
Guess it depends upon your idea of cheap.

Here's some stuff off of TireRack.

Sumitomo HTR ZII in 275 / 40 / 18 = $108 ea. 275 / 40/ 17 = $88
Kuhmo ECSTA ASX in 275 / 40 / 18 = $147 ea. 275 / 40 / 17 = $107

Here's a deal:
Hoosier A3S05's (competition tire) in 285 / 30 / 18 for $84 ea. Granted their UTQG rating is 40 C A. But the're not intended for highway use.

I've got a set of the 275/40/17 Kuhmo's on my '93 Z28. Seem to stick pretty good. Not a bad tire for the money. I think they'll get my $$$ when I get for tires for my Bravada. I've got a set of 18 x 9.5" C5 wagons that I'll probably run 275 / 40 / 18's on. Was originally wanting a taller tire (something in the 28" or 29" od range to keep my cruise rpms from climbing too much (truck has 3.73's and an 80E)). But I think I'm going to swap gearsets and run the 275 / 40 / 18. Don't really want to go much lower profile, due to the condition of the streets around here (too many potholes and such).

Thanks for the help. I dont want TOO cheap. Under $100 for some 275/40/18s sounds scary to me. I know the Falken is a good all around tire so ill stick there. Around $500 is where I want to be anyway.

My Tyclone is a 3.73 truck with a 4l60e... I may just have a AWD burnout monster on my hands! hehe

Yeah, I didn't want to try the Sumitomo's either.

But the Kuhmo's were well liked by the reviewers on TireRack. And I can say they're pretty decent. I'm sure they're better than the BFG CompTA's that used to be on my Z. Hopefully I'll get better treadwear too (I've had 2 sets of TA's on my Z, first set lasted 13k, 2nd set made it to about 20k, I think I'm too hard on tires).

If I remember correctly Sumitomo is just a subsidiary of another company, Kumho or Yokohama. Don't fear running a Sumitomo just beacuse you don't know anything about them, i've sold hundreds over the years and never had any issues. They're just as good as a Kumho. Kuhmo's are just a OK entry level tire nothing special there, I wouldn't even consider them in the same class as any BFG.

285/40/18s are much more expensive than a 275/40/18. thats why not much anyone runs em.

Re: What Size 18"s Do You Guys Run?

Price is a big factor.....

Least expensive 285 I've seen is $200 a piece (Nitto 555's on TireDirect). Most others are $250 to $300.

Least expensive 275 I've seen is $108 ea (Sumitomo) with numerous others in the $150 to $175 range.

Availability is a concern for me. There were 36 different listings on Tirerack for 275's, only 8 for 285's. If I'm out in the middle of nowhere, and lose a tire, I'd like to be able to obtain a replacement (besides the spare) in less than a week. Quantity of listings / manufacturer's indicates to me that a replacement should be easier to find.

I'm planning on running 275 40 18's on my Bravada, probably Kuhmo's.
