What to do with 27k miles motorless 93 TY???

Well guys, I'm here for your thoughts and opinions, doesn't mean I'll do whatever you say, but Ill sure listen.

I currently own a 93 Typhoon, number 1114? I think off the top of my head. This is the old Big Block Typhoon from years ago. It was a victim of an engine fire at 27k miles in the Chicago area around 2000. Was sold, title stayed clean, guy from Illinois bought it, replaced the front sheetmetal, and painted the whole truck. Installed a big block very poorly and hacked up a lot of wiring. A friend and I bought the truck a few years back with no engine and it has changed hands between us. I have had it for the last year, sitting in the garage doing nothing. Currently the dash is out because it's halfway through having another Typhoon harness installed and possibly all of the A/C parts put back in that were ripped out. The engine fire just heated the firewall enough to melt some wiring, etc years ago. So, here it sits, motorless, 27k miles...beautiful leather...doors shut like new, NO rust. The paint was nice back when it was done, but poor prep left it ugly in a few spots. It also is covered in metalflake and has a few gaudy airbrushings. But it is still a clean 27k 93 Ty with potential.
Part of me wants to sell it rolling, after I put the dash together fully and make it look more presentable, however I owe a lot on it now because I took a loan out on it. The other part of me wants to put it together, with a fuel injected small block and make a nice driver out of it. I know, that kills the purists, but come on, the engines long gone as are most engine compartment pieces. I would need a good parts truck to donate EVERYTHING under the hood to put it back to TY specs, and (don't flame me) but Im not too crazy about the old start on fire, or throw a rod 4.3 turbos anyway.
Say I was to put an LT1 in it......no hack job, but done right, cause that's how I roll, do you think it would have any resale??? If I put in a cammed LT1 done well, it would run better than stock or lightly modified TYs. Im sure I could get it to run 13.0s and knowing me I would spray it a little, making a nice low 12 second driver. Think it would be worth anything done?? If everything worked could something like that ever sell for say 9500? 9000?? It has the blue book, it's easy to loan on, hell my bank would go 15k on it tomorrow if I called them. MY other thoughts are if I really like it and want to go fast, should I ditch the heat and A/C and make it super clean under the hood. Would that KILL any resale on it?? I would never DAILY drive it, I've got other cars for that, so the A/C wouldnt matter, and I dont drive nice stuff in the winter so the heat wouldnt matter either, but if NOONE would ever buy it off me that would suck, cause I sell everything, so it would only be a matter of time.
I dunno, lemme know your thoughts guys........

(my personal opinion)... The whole WANT of a TY or SY is mainly the turbocharged engine and the AWD. now taking out one of those attracting things will of course decrease the value. but say if the truck was an original ty (paint and interior) with no motor and needing a wiring harness it would be worth a nice chunk of change. seeming that you truck was painted, as you say its gaudy so it might need a repiant and a motor and wiringit might not be worth as much as your looking to get for. i think putting an 8 cylindermight scare off a few buyers but with impressive performance times and an LT1 which has a big aftermarket you will definitly be able to find someone interested.

If you are going to do it, do it to keep it. Otherwise, sell it.

just to reply to TurboJunk, the big appeal to me of a SY/TY first is the looks, I love the styling. Next would be their level of performance, not so much WHAT makes them relatively fast, just the fact that they are.

In response to Merk, if I was doing it for myself I would ditch the heat and AC, smooth the firewall and make the thing SUPER clean under the hood. Next year would probably be a repaint, followed the year after by a seriously built LT1, possibly with a Turbo, Blower, or most likely just more Nitrous. I would keep everything functional and nice on the inside and keep it driveable, with the only exception being the climate control. NICE weather permitting, it would be a great cruiser. In all honesty though, I don't keep anything that long. My vehicles have ranged from vettes/Camaros/Novas to LT1 S-10s that ran 11-teens. I have had 62 vehicles by age 25, so nothing really sticks around too long, once its done enough to be appealing to someone.......

To reply to TurboJunk further, I KNOW that the V8 will decrease the value. If this truck had the stock engine in the condition it is with the mileage it would be worth 15k. I would NEVER expect that, I just wonder if there would be any interest in it down the road with a well done LT1 conversion with everything working and running fast without any finicky 4.3 problems. Again, I'm NOT trying to get flamed on this board, but we know how many SY/TYs engines have been rebuilt by 40k miles and how many started on fire, thats a lot of hot stuff packed in a small space under that hood!

My point here (if I have one) is just to see if anyone thinks it would ever be worth 9k or so all done right, or if I should just go balls out and make it clean and fast and fun and hope to be able to get 6500-7000 out of it when Im done.

BTW, the way it sits now on magnesium Corvette 18s and 17s with crap tires, I would have to get 4500 to sell it rolling to clear the loan.

If you go with a SBC you can use the stock syty wiring and computer (add 2 injector plugs) and have a bolt in operation so you can drive it, enjoy, etc.

To me doing that isn't any worse than where it sits, I actually think it is better being it will then RUN. It could always be taken back out.

Now ME personally, I would throw a LS1 in it. Leave it AWD, etc. Done cleanly I don't see it losing any value over a mid mileage stocker.

I agree with the LSx idea. If youre going to do this atleast make it up to date and already powerful. LT1's arent all that great. Ild even consider the TT route if you throw in a V8.

I like the LS1 idea and this one already had one in for mockup before. However.....oil pan and headers?? anyone got any easy ideas?? They kinda suck. As far as LT1s go, what I put in would make LS1 like power, and no OPTI, I dont like OPTIs I run regular distributors in the back with different harnesses and I would do this one the same way.

As far as the 4.3 goes, I would only be interested in a whole truck for parts, like I said EVERYTHING is gone under the hood, much more than just an engine. If I had a whole running wrecked truck, I would swap it all into this one.

As far as using the stock harness for the V8, again...its all gone......like a freight train!

This was my last LT1 S-10, with distributor in the back and aftermarket EFI harness and ECM by Holley.

This is how I would setup the Typhoon, at least similiar looks wise. This motor had a small cam and 70k miles and ran 12.47 on the motor on 235 Goodyear street tires.

You do that to the typhoon, fix the paint, etc. I'll buy it when you are done.

i see your point about the engines they're broken most of time you own them so the 8 would be better in your case.

I think I have at least 1/2 of those posters folded up in my storage room. They'll probably stay there unless my gf dumps me.

If I had to put another motor in my Ty instead of my McCoy I would go with an LS1 or LS2 motor and have someone do some custom headers for me.
