Dabney's still around. I'm a relative new guy joining in 02 and Dabney was one of the first SyTy'ers I met in person when Turbo Link was using my truck as the dummy. Will can get him to come out of the wood work every so often.

I believe it was Dabney who said his Silverstate Ty would drain the gas tank in 30 minutes at WOT. That's cool.

Re: What's happened to the "old" timers?

I enjoyed the few photoshop wars that me and Green had. If there were pshop wars prior to that, i wish i woulda been around for them. I've always loved slapstick pshop humor  Fortunately for my wallet, I have only been into syty's since 2001 when i bought my first Ty. To think that until then i'd basically only changed oil. stupid trucks.

Re: What's happened to the "old" timers?

'99 Nats - Dabney, Hartman, Waller, CLee, and myself all go to Bazookas in downtown (there may have been others and I was only there for moral support ;) ). Candy comes out on stage and offers her panties up in a raffle. Stagehand is raffling off tickets and Dabney comes up and says, "How many are on the whole roll?" "250," says the stagehand. "How many have you sold?" says Dabney. "1," shoots back the stagehand. So, Dabney says, "Here's $249 and I better win the panties."

He did.

:rotf: - Great times.

Anyone remember BG photoshopped onto the B.A.G. pic on the 90210 poster? Geez, that was hilarious. I have it at home....will post in 45 min.

Re: What's happened to the "old" timers?

I can remember both the turbo cuke and dabney running silver state.

At the time I was in Seattle and somewhat got NWSTP going with some help. Late night internet ICQ chats calling the chicago guys a bunch of wimps was a blast. At least the wimps part hasn't changed.

Then we had the wars between Ivan and NWSTP to see who could outdo each other, leading to his donuts, and me lighting my driveway on fire. O that was a blast.

I think one major thing that has changed is the average age, a lot of younger owners coming in now where back in 98 finiacially that wasn't common. With that has been some change and a lot more newbie questions being asked. Not that young owners are bad, I was young in 98 myself, well ok younger. Just a change.

I can so picture Dabney winning the raffle.

My first nats I attended (nats #2) I got a ticket in Eastern washington for doing 90mph in 70 zone. (I was more than happy to get it for 90 as seconds earlier speedo was pegged). Cop was fairly cool, said he hadn't seen many typhoons (as he spoke Paul and Richard Le going flying by in Typhoons).

Of course Will and I traveling from Denver to KC lead to my diacom recorded 140mph run. I learned it is true, Kansas is nothing but corn fields.

Also learned the cruise does work when you set it at 120mph, and it will hold without problems.

Heck I remember when the 3 bar was RELEASED. Maybe that would be a good time to define old timers from the new guys.

Re: What's happened to the "old" timers?

Bringing up tons of old memories of Nats gone by. I can remember Guy jumping his little moped over the fake rock in the parking lot, someone (not naming any names here) switching everyone's license plates, Brian G. scooting around the parking lot on his razor scooter, Sean wearing his wig and carrying around the chicken (the "KAK"), Adam creeping into the room right before daybreak....dang good memories.

Someone asked what we meant by the old days....for me it was the true friendships that I gained from talking to people on here and in person at the Nats. Nobody thought anything of jumping right in to help someone if they needed it. I know Ivan is a touchy subject to most but he didn't bat an eye when we asked him to come down and help fix our syclone. Jeff Scott lending us a two way radio and being nice enough to meet up to caravan to Nats. These were people that had only met us via the chats but were willing to do whatever it took for a fellow sytyer. If anyone keeps in touch with Steve Nunley please tell him that I miss talking to him and said "hi and I hope all is still going good with your new business".

I just realized some of you were on here before I had a license or knew how to change my own oil.
I'm gonna go back to pretending like I know everything now and forget how much of a newbie you have all made me feel like :D .

Wow, it's cool to read about what the SyTy community used to be like. Even for the short period that I've been on here I've noticed some changes, mostly a huge influx of new owners and non-owners. :2cents:

Re: What's happened to the "old" timers?

ahhh memories. I miss hanging out with syty folks, and loitering on the board.

Nats were always a blast. I don't know how many hours I wasted on the forum, or editing pictures that I posted here. We need to dig up & permanently archive some of those threads.

I still regret not posting the last picture I was working on involving a pic of renz - the 'contest' thread that him or smaug started.

other highlights:

-flamewars that started on the *email* list
-Matthew from TX, <what was in the water down there, etc>
-the kung fu holy figure at the one nats event
-old ICQ/AIM chats were fun
-Humblias- where do we start with that guy. I remember telling him to run helium in his tires for better times and he was eating it up. This was about the same time that he blew his motor on the way out to Chitown. We were under the truck looking things over and I had to point out the oil pan to him.

Anyways, I check out the board every so often, when I have time. Once in a while I get an urge to work on a truck. I autocross my Sti, but that's really the extent of my auto worship nowadays. Career & finances are more of a priority at this point in my life, I'll have to see if I have more time in the future. I can't believe my Sti is still stock...that wouldn't be possible with the old me.

<sniff sniff> i feel old...i just did a search and found that I first started reading the email list in early 1997. Found an old post my brother made then, as he was the original owner of my first Syclone. More than 9 years ago...geeez.

Still waiting... Yeah, I remember the poster. Definitely one of the funniest things I've seen on SyTy. I heard Green's been on a more recent show with Luke Perry. Might be time for another photoshop.
