What's this broken hose for?

Hi,

I found this broken hose under the truck while messing with the water pump. Here's one end:

And here's the other end:

Any idea what this is for? I followed the "other end" and it led up to by the oil filter with a little black plug or something on the end of it. The first part went above the transmission(?).

Thanks,
Alex

Kinda hard to tell from the pictures, but that hose looks like the breather line from the front differential. It looks like it melted on the crossover pipe.

You should replace the line with a new one. The black "clip" on the front end of the line is a breather plug -- meant to let air in-and-out but not dirt.

You should also consider changing your front diff oil, just in case some water and/or dirt got sucked up into the hose.

I agree with BillC. That should be the front diff vent hose. Definately change the fluid as soon as you can.

 when you found this hose was it running through a lil clamp on the drivers side of the tranny? and has a lil black thingy on the end with a flathead screw driver end on it? i just noticed that i had a random hose hangin underneath my truck and i couldnt find the other end... hopefully its the same hose so now i know what to fix.
