What's Your Motivation?

LIL QIK

HELL YEA I GOT BOOST!
I had something happen the other day....and I have to admit it got me motivated.

I'm driving down the highway in my recently purchased '10 Camaro SS. I'm cruising at about 70 and I'm coming up on a newer Z06 Corvette. This crackhead in a lighter and more powerful car decides he wants to rev up his obnoxiously loud exhaust right as I get next to him. I roll on past just kind of smiled at him and shaking my head. As I get to the front of his car I can hear the magnuson under his "blower" hood. Which at this point it kind of pissed me off that this punk ass would even challenge me when he's obviously lighter and more powerful than I. It's guys like this that really get me motivated....lol. All I could think for the next couple of days was....."Damn it......I need to get the fricken Syclone on the road"

I know it sounds kind of childish....but that's what motivates me currently....lol. Got me to thinking about what motivates the rest of you guys to build their trucks.....

unfortunately not a lot, that's why my ty has been on jack stands under a cover and not seen the light of day in eight maybe nine years  ......

Wow, this sounds horribly familiar...and maybe your motivation is the same as mine. The longer it sits, the more that will go wrong and need to be replaced. Mine has now gotten to the point of a full tear down, it's the only way I'll be satisfied.

My truck has been in half ass'd project mode for almost 10 years now. It's terrible, I'll admit it. I've always made excuses (I'm paying for college, it's at my brother's shop, etc). After the wedding last year, I told the whiff I'm done sitting on this. It will be at least 80% finished by the time I'm 30, if not 100%.

It's too easy to keep making excuses (for me anyway). And the older I get the more excuses there will be - be it kids, no space, money issues, etc.

I'm done making excuses, I want my truck.

Proving my dad wrong that I can do more than disassemble a whole truck, that I can put it back together, & in the end when it's running that it's not just another piece of scrap junk. I want to have a nice ride by the time I'm 30, doesn't have to be a show truck or a performance monster just a nice fun daily driver that I respect due to building it the way I want & like.

Re: What's Your Motivation?

mine is prolly that it at this point represents what i'm capible of. Rebuilding a whole truck, engine and all. being able to take down an evo or a ws6 in a, 18 year old S-10 based truck that I tuned and built myself, that I can turn around a take to a car show and place in.

Re: What's Your Motivation?

I cover a lot of miles in a dense area every month, with different cars, and on a daily basis, I need to think that I should have better taken the Ty, just because of these situations that occur on the road.

So yeah count me in. I'm the same as Tytilidie and lil qik.

Re: What's Your Motivation?

In my area there aren't many high end cars. Unfortunately there are tons of imports ("stereotypical ricers" not "tuners") that ran down to the muffler shop and had a fart can installed, then went to the flea-market and bought stickers, and they truly believe they can't be beat. They do anything to get you to race them, and the sad thing is most of them get beat by the stock cars they mess with.

I guess I have made it my duty to prove to every last one of them how slow they really are, and wipe that smart ass grin off their faces.

Looking at other syty's that are awesome, and the simple joy of enjoying the finished product of your hard work...but currently morale is at a low point because of the stupid O2 sensor seized up in my downpipe!! The joys of working on cars...

What is my motivation?

Although I don't have a SY/TY yet, my motivation is to be different and demolish these ignorant kids. I hang out where people drive Lightnings, built Silverado's, Mustangs, Engine swapped Honda's, GTO's, and some boosted jap cars. Most of these arrogant fagz dont know what a sy/ty is capable of, but, oh they WILL see. My dream is to drive around destroying most of these guys with a 20 year old truck and watching their jaw drop as I leave them bus lengths behind.

Also I plan to call-out an ex-friend. He has a "built" sierra, and he is so cocky with it. I just want to embarrass him with a boosted s-series truck.... one day, one day.

My Ty is one and only in town, and I can't wait to kick them Subaru's a$$es.

Re: What's Your Motivation?

My motivation - having that "odd early 90's" S-15 that will leave the punks like you described in your 1st post, with their jaws dropped and wondering wtf just happened as they see the Sy's taillights shrinking.

Re: What's Your Motivation?

Two things motivate me.

One knowing i have enough power on tap to run with anything on 4 wheels and 2 wheels. When doing a Bowtie build my motivation is when I'm done there will be some many guys left scratching there heads when I'm done with them saying WTF just happened.

Second is to stand apart from the crowd.

I've been building my truck for 5 years now and while I've taken no short cuts my friends ask my how I can do it when the weather gets nice and not having a car to drive. Yes it's hard but when you have a vision in ur head of what u want and have committed to never settling for anything less that you have an understanding. Like buying a set of $3000 CCW classic wheels it was something I had to have. Could I sell them and finish something on my truck to make it run and drive on zr-1 or stockers sure but it's not what I want. I have an evo and one of the best things about them is you can do some many things to them visually with cf, side skirts, bumpers, wings and jdm parts, to stand apart from the crowd where with a Sy or Ty visually the trucks have such classic styling you can only make them stand out from the rest of the crowd by ur wheels, stance and what's under the hood.

Re: What's Your Motivation?

there is NEVER anyone out looking for a race when i bring the truck out. Yet as soon as i drive the DD, there's d-baggs all over revving at stoplights.

Oh wait, sorry. That's what pisses me off, not what motivates me.... um.

Knowing i have a month and a half to finish it before the first event, that motivates me. Although i'll drag the work out to 2 months.
