I don't know about you, but I don't think I'd attempt to repair the existing CV joint. They're pretty sensitive pieces and you've got to have them be absolutely spotlessly clean in order for them to live.

I'd think seriously about purchasing a complete rebuilt shaft. Probably cheaper and easier in the long run. I'd even consider doing both sides, depending upon cost, condition, # miles, etc.

But thats just my $0.02

went by the pep boys, and they have a reman' shaft for $100 with $110 core
then just for shits and giggles i went to the dealer...
$347 for the cv joint and the boot
$570 for a new shaft

i dunno what brand this pep boys shaft is, but would i really get anything better at napa or auto zone?

I don't think you'd do much better at Autozone. I'd think the Napa parts would be better. They'll probably be more expensive.

I checked NapaOnline. Didn't have any parts listings for Sy's, but did for Ty's (I don't understand that). Anyway, the Ty halfshafts were like $140 new. I'd check with your local Napa for price and availability. Personally, I'd feel a little better with Napa parts than Pep Boyz Specials, but don't feel like getting robbed at the stealership.
