When does false knock occur?

If your having cases of false knock... wouldn't the false knock show during driving?

Sorry for the stupid question, I just started driving my truck again and noticed that while idling in the driveway if you rev it slightly it'll show a max of 3.0 degrees of retard. But I can hit 17psi moments later down the road and only see a max of 1.2 kr which has me scratching my head.

So what's the deal would you say this is false knock? and if so would it still occur when the trucks actually being used?

Thanks

Ryan

does it knock in park or nuetral?

good question.. It knocked while in Park. It didn't knock while driving or even a second of brake torque to 5psi so im confused.

Mine knocks around 3200 rpm in neutral, park or drive with or without a load. I'm going crazy trying to find the source. If anyone has any ideas that lead to sucess you'll have a set of decals on me.

I wish you luck

that sucks

Yeah mine only knocks to a max of 3.0kr within a 1200rpm to 1800rpm range.. I mean I could live with it I guess since it's only in park but i've always only had 1 to 2 kr max thru an entire run so I was getting a little concerned.

Try unplugging the sensor and see what it does.

Being in neutral I suspect it is false.

My guess would be the exhaust causing the problem. This may sound stupid but take out the passenger inner fender well, then grab a pair of you grandmothers pot holders and have someone push (or pull) against the down pipe. This will help dampen any exhaust anomaly’s that may be causing false knock. Try it you may be surprised.
