Its cool and all, but the font is a little on the weak side. Does whoever made it mind if I try and clean it up a bit? and what's with the "Ultimate" thing?

It just got put into the rotation last night and I am the one who created it.

I had no idea those images were copyrighted and being as that they have been cropped and slightly edited i think that the copyright law is no longer in effect.
We are not presenting it in the same manner as the material was first published. Not too mention there is no monetary gain nor harm to the artist.
If there is a problem with it we can remove it just as easily.

The font was last minute, I just tossed it in there.
It goes with the cartoon type theme.
Some like it some don't... too bad.

The ultimate syty forum comes from the initial days of creationa nd I thought it would be nice to touch on that historical point that this is THE ULTIMATE.
There are other SyTy boards, but this one is the OFFICIAL as well as the ULTIMATE!

And Morgan I removed the F** because I dont think that is entirely necessary for a subject...

well, since I just wanted to know if I could fool around with the font and got every answer but, I did it anyway.

Jason, since its your image, you make the call. I was just trying to help out, not flame the image. I just didnt care for the font or felt something could better suit the image and I had concern for the copyrighted material, thats all. Anyway, heres a slightly altered one.

EDIT: and the file size on mine is slightly smaller as well to help the dial up people :D

http://www.copyright.gov/

Any work is copyrighted as soon as it's put in tangible form. It doesn't matter if it has the little C symbol or if they registered it or not. Anything you create is inherently copyrighted.

How much of someone else's work can I use without getting permission?
Under the fair use doctrine of the U.S. copyright statute, it is permissible to use limited portions of a work including quotes, for purposes such as commentary, criticism, news reporting, and scholarly reports. There are no legal rules permitting the use of a specific number of words, a certain number of musical notes, or percentage of a work. Whether a particular use qualifies as fair use depends on all the circumstances. See FL 102, Fair Use, and Circular 21, Reproductions of Copyrighted Works by Educators and Librarians.

How much do I have to change in order to claim copyright in someone else's work?
Only the owner of copyright in a work has the right to prepare, or to authorize someone else to create, a new version of that work. Accordingly, you cannot claim copyright to another's work, no matter how much you change it, unless you have the owner's consent. See Circular 14, Copyright Registration for Derivative Works.

Could I be sued for using somebody else's work? How about quotes or samples?
If you use a copyrighted work without authorization, the owner may be entitled to bring an infringement action against you. There are circumstances under the fair use doctrine where a quote or a sample may be used without permission. However, in cases of doubt, the Copyright Office recommends that permission be obtained.

so whatdya think bill?

Should we risk it or trash it?

Anyone wanna trace something "similar" that isnt so recognizable?

I think that it's almost guaranteed that this wouldn't fall under fair use. But at the same time, I also think it's almost guaranteed that they wouldn't try to sue over it.

It might be worth it to just email the guy who does those pics and see if he minds. But if he says no, then he's clued in to the fact that you want to use them, and would be more likely to look for them, find them, and do the lawsuit thing.
