Who owns a TT 305 Sy?

Syty Killer :(
A friend of mine just moved out to california and he called me today and told me that last night (wednesday) he talked to a guy that had a syclone and he said it was a 305 twin turbo. Just curious if that was anyone on here.

Out of all the V8's why would you choose the 305.
I was wondering the same thing. Those are boat anchors.

or a bowtie block with a 4" crank.... and actually the 305's weren't all that awefull, just the intakes heads and cams... okay wait... with a decent combustion chamber, ported head, short runner intake, and the right cam, a 305 is a decnet, torquey little motor. but the TPI intakes were jokes and god knows the cams and heads were even worse, so yeah basicly the 305 sucked.

A 305 for those who don't know is a small bore 350. The TPI on the 305 weren't that bad, infact they TPI intakes were designed for 305 displacement and were better suited for that size of motor (the rpm isn't range isn't as limited). The biggest issue with 305 is the small bore limited the size of valve in the heads, so head flow is limited. I have seen people do stroker 305, but with the availability of 350 block, a 305 isn't cost effective to building up.

Could be a V6 305ci...A 3.75 stroke and a 4.155 bore will get you there.

Never underestimate anything, we built single turbo setup for a guy with a fully built 305 with the factory TPI style intake in a camaro , car is full weight and gets driven 10,000 miles a year, he has been 9.6 142, his tune never changes, drives to the track, lowers tire pressure, makes a pass then goes home, gets about 20 MPG on the highway looks and sounds stock

305 is a good motor if youre looking for reliability, but if its hp youre after go with a 350. i know every 305 ive ever seen thats been built to race hasnt impressed me.

i actually raced a guy years ago in an early 80s vette with a 305 that had a cam and little head work done to it with my old 95 s10 (which was slower than my sogt) and beat him by around 3 lengths through the eighth.

 Personally, the 327 is the best engine dollar for dollar. Does not take a lot of bucks to get alot of bang. I had a Malibu with a 327 awhile back (stock) and I pretty much took care of all comers. The power to weight ratio was hard to beat.

:stupid Yeah thats what i ment, 4" stroke would net you ~327cid.

yeah the stock TPI is better on a 305, but still quite a limiter, the runners are too long and they kinda kill top end, unless you've got something forcing it through there, IE turbo

If no built 305 has ever impressed you, then quite simply it wasn't built right.

Re: Who owns a TT 305 Sy?

what amazes me is GM built 50 million small blocks why would you build a 305? say what you want but give me the same $$$$ and a 350 block and ill out run you every time

he he... okay so what are the limits of this here contest? i'll take the 305, you get the 350. maybe we'll both get a copy of desk top dyno and see who can make the more powerfull motor :D

5 grans is fine , assume there a crank in that Bare Block, use summit/ jegs for parts pricing, assume self asssembled

Re: Who owns a TT 305 Sy?

Heck, I'd never build a 305 for a performance act but the one in my Sierra hasn't done me wrong yet... however, I'm still trolling for a late model 350 to drop in there
(I figured if my mom's 350 suburban can beat my truck off the line by about 3 lengths to 60, it would be dynamite in the shortbed :D )

if you are gonna swap the motor get the HT 383 from GMPP
It was supposed to be a low budget swap... the burban nearly got totalled a few months ago, so I was going to get all the parts I wanted (motor, tranny, xcase and G80 rear end) before they junked it .... fell through though

Their was a guy years ago at NED with a 80's 305 TPI Camaro Iroc-Z with a SC (I think he running 20psi of boost). He was running 10's at that time. I saw him remember his car very well because he his liscense plate was TPI 305, my Corvette had TPI 350, I was a long way off from my little brother
