It is, and it takes the snowy streets more safely than my Toyota Camry '88. Of course, I got a lil rust already, so in the end its all the same.

yep and I also know they are a limited production vehicle whose number are only declining.
I don't want to end up with a rust bucket in a matter of years

i learn something new everyday.

mythphoon93,
is that from your truck? i didnt know it snowed in florida. :p
you should just get new fenders. about $60 for new ones.
if you are gonna try and save them, spray some rust-proofing on the inside.

No, it doesn't rain in florida. That's my old truck that spent it's first years in mid state PA and then to NJ . It had a good amount of rust when I bought it in 97.

I agree with SY769 totally. It's not that I mind the snow, just can't stand the salt that goes with it. Thats why I already have a rusty car for this purpose. So I can keep the nice stuff stayin' nice. Once the roads are clean, I drive the wheels off of em".

The truck was from up north, nd no it doesnt snow down here in florida. I was pretty shocked when I saw all the cladding off to see it wasnt completly rusted out. But in the areas that it has rust it is pretty bad. The truck should be finished and completed by March 7th. The truck only needs a few more things to be complete as far as stage 1 goes, such as zo6 motorsport wheels and a adfpr and 3bar map sensor. And where are you people getting these prices for a fender from, a original gm fender cost 300$ at the stealership.

Why not jut use a GM s-series fender from a bone yard? I assume they'll look much better than what's there, it's still a GM piece, and it's not $300.

The fenders are the easy part.

Rust that starts in areas that you can't see is the hard part. By the time it starts showing itself you have a real mess on your hands.

thats easy too, GM now makes a repair panel for that area. You just cut the old shit out and weld the new one in, very simple.

Yikes!
Some steps to prevent that:

-Frequent washes when the roads are salty (1-2 weekly), and make sure the undercarriage is cleaned thoroughly

-Frequently inspect the body for the beginning signs of rust (bubbling paint etc.), pain close attention around the cladding, it has been known to rub though the paint, exposing the sheet metal. Also pay close attention to all areas where water collects (underneith tailgate, roof)

-Repair all paint chips and dings prior to winter, rust starts where the metal is exposed.

-Wax the truck with a quality product prior to winter (and during winter if possible), this will help the paint shed the salty water off.

-Undercoating will also give you added protection for the undercarriage, POR15 is highly effective at preventing rust.

I have lived in some of the salty places in the country (UP of Michigan, Minnesota, Upstate NY, Ohio, North Dakota) and I have learned that you can drive a syty (or any other car) in salty conditions and keep it from becoming a rust bucket, but you have to pay close attention, and work to keep it rust free.
