Wideband O2 gauge and other gauges

Hi guys,

I'm thinking about getting a wideband O2 sensor and AFR gauge combo from PLX. That got me wondering... do they make a gauge that can be configured to show knocks or knock retard? I don't see any gauges specifically for that purpose, but maybe it's possible to hack them a bit?

Thanks!

Not as of yet they dont offer a KR gauge.

Depending on the gauge/sensor youre going with is *MIGHT* be possible to hack into. If its the DM-100/DM-200 its not gona happen unless someone here codes/writes the software.

PS on the up side, the SM-AFR and DM-100 is a damn nice combo. http://s305.photobucket.com/albums/nn215/dAshisse/?action=view&current=0603081559.flv
That link is a crappy cell phone vid of the DM-100/SM-AFR in action in my ty.

i love the damn thing and the install is a breeze, just check the power cord (AC adapter) for a good connection. Alot of people have seen the wires seperate from the ac adapter end and have had problems.

If you can convince PLX to make a 0-5v input box for their fancy gauge then YES.

Code59 has in testing a 0-5V output based on knock, so any gauge that can read 0-5v can display knock.

I know the O-meter Moates sells we have working for sure. The options will open up as people find new things. Of course we need to release this version of 59 also.

Re: Wideband O2 gauge and other gauges

So which input voltage ranges does the PLX currently support?

Could I solder up a circuit to scale the 0-??? V to 0-5 V in between the sensor and the PLX, or does that create some kind of undesirable side effect?

I believe but don't quote me that the LED style gauge is a 0-5v input. Scale would be off though since it goes from ~10-20 we want 0-up for scale.

The new gauge they have is done with actual data stream I believe not 0-5v signals.

You'd have to watch out for how the circuit got loaded down. The ones we have had working were with specific resistor/cap values on the ECM outputs.

One of the early testers did a simple LED bar graph meter... lots of options. Could do a buzzer, triggered at a certain level.

We might, at some point, look at having a custom gauge done. The downside to that, is that everybody wants a different color, or backlight, or font...

Innovate makes a gauge that you can reprogram, and print your own faceplates. This would be the most direct method.

The o-meter works great, too. Only thing it lacks is a gauge form factor.

Re: Wideband O2 gauge and other gauges

I guess the PLX DM5 looks like the best price/performance combination. This leaves me with 2 questions:

1) If I order the PLX WBO2 sensor/gauge combo, does it come ready to wire up to my ECM (for logging and/or use) *and* the gauge, or only the gauge?

2) Got any links for a schematic for some kind of knock idiot light circuit? I don't care if it's a buzzer, bank of LEDs, or whichever, I'd just like some early feedback if things start going drastically wrong and I don't have a laptop hooked up. I guess I'm mostly wondering where/how I splice in to get the knock data for input into the light/buzzer/offset pager motor in a dash-mounted hula girl? (Kidding!)

Do the knock sensors and alarms from Casper's Electronics not work on our trucks? They seem very popular in the turbo Buick crowd.

Hmmm.... I actually have the dashboard hula girl...

Do a search for knock LED.

The PLX will hook up. You have to have either code59 or a patched chip of some other variety to use it.
Do a search... there's whole hookup threads.

Re: Wideband O2 gauge and other gauges

I've read through all the threads. Most of them refer to the MEMCAL-based schematic at http://syclone.invisibill.net/knockled/

That schematic implies that B8 on the ECM should also work, but doesn't. Another thread implies the F9 pin of the ECM is the proper input. Anyone know for sure?

For the hula girl, I'm thinking you could run a wire inside her leg to an offset pager motor centered vertically between her hips. Then you just need a filter and relay circuit that will supply power to the motor only when your boost hits within 1 psi or so of its max setting. Then, when you'll always know when you're "in the zone" because your hula girl will come alive and start dancing!
