Would you buy a TY with a salvage/theft, rebuild title

Just as the title says. I have been looking for a ty for the last three months and have seen some pretty crazy things on carfax. But there is a ty #1007 on Autotrader right now that looks really nice as in a good job being rebuilt. But when you pull up carfax its like a warning bomb went off with the Salavage/theft title, the 2 rebuild titles, and the odemeter reading can not be trusted anymore note. What are you guys opinion about all of that and would you consider a ty with that history? What does that do to the value of the truck?

If I liked the truck I would buy it for a very reduced price.

Hmmm, tough. If it's cheap, you don' t ever expect to make a profit, don't care if you have more problems than even a normal syty, can live with the fact that it's not as safe as a regular syty and overall can accept that it'll never be 100%, go for it. Personally, I wouldn't.

Re: Would you buy a TY with a salvage/theft, rebuild title

Unless you're buying it to turn for a profit or something like that....I wouldn't worry about it. I just bought a Syclone with the same issues.....but I bought it to build a fast project. So I didn't sweat it. My Sy has the salvaged title....but all it was is the corner of the bed got tore up when it was rear ended. You never know what the cause of the salvaged title was....really just depends on what you plan on doing with it. hth.....Dave

Yeah thats what kinda bugs me is not knowing what happened to the truck. You guys can look it up on autotrader. Its has 48k on it and is red on red. In the pics it looks great but who knows. Just curious what you guys though.

FYI some states issue a salvage/rebuilt title if it was stolen. It could've had no damage at all.

Who honestly buys a syty for a chance of profit in the far future ? If the truck looks good and you like it , buy it . Some people are way to anal when it comes to that stuff .

If there are 2 tys for sale for the same price, one salvaged and looking real good , and one stock (never wrecked) and not as nice , i would buy the better looking truck regardless of what the title says . No one sees the title but you , so does it really have that big of an impact ??

What ever it takes!!
Re: Would you buy a TY with a salvage/theft, rebuild title

yes I would but it would have to be real cheap cause you will probably never be able to get the full value for it when and if you ever try to resale it.

My Sy has a salvage title because of some left front damage that occur in a wreck that did not hurt the frame because the grill, bumber cover, left fender and cladding, hood and windshield needed replacing. But I got a good price on it and it was low mileage. If you plan on keeping it, go for it.

It depends were you live but in OK a salvage title is red and a normal title is green

I got my sy for a little cheaper due to the california salvage title and when i changed it to an OK title it is old enuf that is does not matter so it came back Green (I thought it was cool) but it did not affect my loan value or insurance

You might wanna check with your insurance, but if everything else is fine with it then I don't really see a problem. I'd try to get some history of it if possible just for your your records. If the price is right then by all means.

Re: Would you buy a TY with a salvage/theft, rebuild title

it all depends on what has happened to the truck, my ty has a rebuilt title. It was a theft recovery when I purchased it, there was about 5 pieces of cladding missing, wheels and tires were also gone but the truck was legit as can be. I have replaced everything that missing with OEM, put about a $4,000 custom paint job on the truck as well as new tires. It is a 68k orginal mile 92 and I can't even get an offer in the 8 grand range which kills me. People are paying 3,500-5,000 for TOTAL TURDS that need tons of work yet no one wants to pay the little extra and you don't have to even turn a wrench and you can enjoy it, there also is no rust either. So take it for what its worth, if you like the truck, get it! Bad idea if you are looking to make any $$ on these trucks thats for sure, if you want to lose $$ then thats another story.

Re: Would you buy a TY with a salvage/theft, rebuild title

Ok here is my spin..... from years of experience. A salvage title can be issued for many reasons according to different state laws and I have seen and had more than a few that had minor minor damge totaled due to being incorrectly insured in the first place (a Tri-Power Vett totaled for $5,500 side swip and a Shelby Charger stolen but only the wheels and stereo taken as examples). Of course others were totaled (bad) and rebuilt. So you gotta get as much info as you can to be sure (well as sure as you can be anyway) and put it up on a lift or let a body shop check it out if you feel the need to do so.

Far as the title it's self? Some states don't like rebuilders, some insurance companies won't cover them or at least not for full value if YOU EVER WRECK IT so.... If you are ok with it and never intend to sell it as a collector valued car, are going to mod the hell out of it anyway (hense no longer a collector anyway) and or are just getting a good deal for a daily driver / fixer upper, then go for it! But the bottom line is that as far as a buyer (knowledgable one any way) the insurance company or the actual value goes.... it is not worth as much on paper or by the book..... bottom line. Where is this truck? There was a fella on here from Austin Tx. (I think) trying to sell a salvage red on red Sy a while back that had mods already.

Sold 93 Ty #1102
Re: Would you buy a TY with a salvage/theft, rebuild title

 A MUST READ Ladies and Gentleman, The fact is simple if you look at it in either way. As a collector or a User. User is to have it cause he loves it and use it daily no matter the miles and dog it if he likes and collector well you know has it in the garage to someday make thousand of of it. Which ever you are A salvage title can be hurtful only in two ways One-If you want a low miles collectors car with origanal miles. Two trying to buy it, trade it, insure it, or selling it with a bank or finac. co. I know cause in 2003, I was going to buy one at a dealer with 92 Ty 32K miles(super clean) from out of town for $10,000. Bank said i had credit enough for 34 K(cost). but car had to be Under 100,000 miles, no under 10 years old, and a blue title (which is a clean title in Texas and green title is Salvage). Didn't get it cause of year (92 was 11 years). The fact is this, If you love it --->buy it But get it checked first. If you hate the salavage title issue change it. Maybe I shouldn't tell you this but In some states no matter how many times you change a title, it stills stays the same salage or clean. But two states can help that I know of. LA and OK. If you buy a car with a salvage title take it to one of these ststes to a buddy or relative that lives in that state change title to his name and then back to yours after it comes in and it comes back clean title when you get it and wall----la. Clean Title. But you can never escape a carfax that has been reported, So don't buy a car with out a carfax. I learn this from a guy that bought salvaged cars and cleaned them and changed titles to sell for high profit. In other words he Chin-gele you ( screwed you). People see such a good deal, so good you can't sleep at night cause they didn't jump on it almost even knowing they were getting setup And buy cars from Owners or Dealers not knowing what the car has been thru. And there is more ways too. I bought a 87 GN for $800.00 with out motor and trans and outside motor wiring with only 76,000 miles on it clean title Nothing ever reported on it. Last owner wrecked it sold it to a High Performance shop for engine and trans who sold it to me for cheap for the rear end (8 1/2 gear) that I needed for a 80 Malibu which I wanted for racing. Bought the whole car for $800.00. Now I can pay a theif that can steal one for $500.00 or pay a crack-head less. Put all the parts and engine in change numbers on blocks and trans (And Yes it can be done) Paint it if needed And order new stickers for doors and trunk from a restoration magazine. And sell it to a stranger for less, Thousands cheaper than anybody else in a autotrader. And make thousands for a almost nothing. So you just made someone bend over grab his knees and screwed him over without vasline without him even knowing it But he will still go home and fall asleep thinking he got a good deal. The truth is there is people like that and will not hasitate to make money. So check your numbers all of them titles and history reports and remeber if it smells,or maybe feels, like a lemon, it probally is a Lemon. So lesson learned and class is dismissed, Oh and I will be testing at the end of the week so make sure you all have your notes cause this grade counts for half of your grade for this semester. If any more question ask I'm me I don't mind answering them.
