IMO, you are asking for trouble if you wrap the stock cast iron manifolds. Eventually, they WILL crack. The crossover and down pipe are ok to wrap, if not in too wet a climate, or they will rust out.

never mind cracking, you also have to worry about them soaking up oil/fuel and being a fire hazard. They're not a popular addition at least on here.
My turbo blanket however is very good and recommended.

If you have that much fuel/oil leaking on your engine, you have serious problems.

My sy has both the cross-over and dp wrapped with the same material. After running around for a few hours yesterday I jacked up the front end to pull the wheels. In the time it took to get the Sy on jackstands, I could hold onto the dp. I'm all for the wrap, but think coating looks better.

My buddy owns a coating company. i am having all my stuff coated, i asked him prices for the black color 1,800* stuff and it was going to be around $150 for dp and turbo hot side, another 100 for manifolds too. then he read his caller id and saw it was me and said $150 for everything :lol:

I too have my dp & crossover wrapped. i can't say that it has improved anything but have to think it has reduced under hood temps a little, esp the dp where it connects to the turbo near the intercooler. Wrapping the manifolds sounds too difficult and may not yield the results you are looking for.
I used Thermo-Tec black wrap and s.s clamps. more of a "tinker" project than a performance upgrade.
I wrapped my dp while it was out of the truck. it seems like it would be really tough to do if it wasnt.

Everyone has an opinion on this topic.....that being said.......
From my past experience using the header wrap twice, I would never use it again! It rusted two sets of headers on two different cars. My Z28, I purchased some really nice coated edlebrock headers and I wrapped them. 3 years later, I was buying a new set of coated headers. Needless to say, I did not wrap the new headers. If you want your stuff to last, just get them coated. If you can get them coated internally and externally, your golden! :tup: Cost vs Risk, I would stay away from the wrap, it's cheap and easy in the short term, but it will cost you more in the long run.:2cents:

i use jet hot for coatings at work and my own stuff and i love it.
i will have my DP coated and the cross over pipes recoated since i did some modifying to them
can you take the turbo apart and have the exhuast side coated? i know the intake side is easy but isn't the exhuast side where all the bearings and stuff are? i wanna get my intake and exhuast sides both coated but not sure if the exhuast is possible without a full teardown.
i use jet hot for coatings at work and my own stuff and i love it.

Hear is the deal Thermotech sells a Coating to prevent moister from sitting in the Cloth Heat Wrap It comes in a bunch of colors too I used Black on both my GN and My T now I plan to do the Down pipe and cross over on the Ty.
When you put the wrap on Put a light coat of the paint on the pipe let it air dry then wrap the pipe and coat the Wrap several times so it soaks in to it good. I have had the same Stainlss DP and Standard Steal headers on both my cars for at least 10 years without any issues of rust or braking. I wouldnt do a cast Manifold though :tup:
There also some new products from DEI that have the Coating in them already but I have not used them as of yet.
Im a hard core racer and I hate to say it but anything you can do to keep the heat our of your engine bay is HP In the bank. Might not be a ton but it will help. DP is a big one as the more heat you keep in it the faster the turbo will spool up. :lol:
One other side benefit I see on my TY is the Plug wires are super super close to and almost resting on the DP so wrapping it will help save the wires from the heat
