Re: WTB stock chip (updated version)

If you can grab a non-BBZB chip, send it to me and I'll reburn it to BBZB for free.

Re: WTB stock chip (updated version)

difference between the two chips, please?

just wondering if one of my problems lies in either chip

Re: WTB stock chip (updated version)

The 16181579 (bbzb 1580) was the latest chip produced for syclones and typhoons. It is supposed to have the latest timing curves and smoother idle. I read this info on the net but have no personal experience yet. I am trying to get a new chip and narrow down some of my problems.

Re: WTB stock chip (updated version)

Fred, I'm going to answer your PM here since it might answer someone else's question. Fred asked if he needed to supply a BBZA chip in order for it to be reburnt to BBZB. The answer is no. Any stock or aftermarket memcal for a SyTy can be reburnt for BBZB if so desired. AYBN, AYBM, BBZA, Conley, ATR, KB, etc... all can be reburnt with any 16kb bin file from any era. Nothing to it.

For the question above. Here are the differences between then 4 common SyTy chips:

AYBM - First production Syclone chip.

AYBN - Improved Syclone chip.
----------------------------------------------
Improvements over AYBM:
- Improved idle quality (via PS Stall settings)
- Rewritten F77 to provide leaner low boost AFRs (for better spool up)
- Rewritten F71 to provide delayed WG opening (for better spool up)
- Minor changes in F70 to prevent too much boost at low rpm (WOT in 4th)
- Various changes to WG control scalars (to provide better boost control)
- Lowered Overboost fuel cut (to prevent too much allowed boost, corresponds with above improved control)
- Rewritten F3 for much less timing at higher boost (to improve control, prevent overboost, and avoid detonation: a common killer of early engines)
- Rewritten F1 for much more mid-range (improved spool up and fuel economy) and full WOT advance (GM felt it better to have more static timing in F1 and have it pulled out by F3 dependent on temp/boost)
- Removed unneeded CEL flag (41) and enabled two needed ones (31 & 33)
- Improved cold start and hot start via various scalar changes
- Minor CL improvements via scalar changes
- Necessary hex changes for revision (date code, seq code, prom ID, and checksum)

BBZA - First production Typhoon chip (IIRC).
----------------------------------------------
Improvements over AYBN:
- Rewritten F18 for lower idle in gear
- Modified F70 for lower commanded boost at 100% (to allow more overboost "padding" and reduce overall boost = reduced detonation/engine failure)
- Modified stoich crosscount threshold (from .500 to .350 - to, IMO, achieve leaner AFRs across the board for emissions and fuel economy - either that or a coding error)
- Added a little more retard at idle (to improve idle quality and crank time)
- Modified TCC lockup characteristics from 35mph-60mph (to allow converter to lock under more throttle)
- Lowered RPM scalar for ESC retard cut-on (from 1800 to 750 - to allow ECM to see low rpm KR)
- Necessary hex changes for revision (date code, seq code, prom ID, and checksum)

BBZB - Improved Typhoon chip.
----------------------------------------------
Improvements over BBZA:
- Modified stoich crosscount threshold (from .350 back to .500 - when the expected improvements didn't pan out - or to repair coding error)
- Necessary hex changes for revision (date code, seq code, prom ID, and checksum)

So as you can see, the BBZB chip is the most refined chip for SyTys released by GM. Is it perfect? Nope. Is it better than it's predecessors? Yep.

really appreciate you taking your time to post all that info. thank you!

i tried looking at my chip setup but they are soldered in-place so i have no idea which one i have. looks like the brown chip with the window in the center use to have a sticker. has residue on top.

any way to verify? also, I'd like to have mine revised if possible when you get done with HAMMERHEAD's. please let me know if you'd be up to it. thank you

Send it on. I can dump the bin and see what you have and then burn for BBZB if needed.

Re: WTB stock chip (updated version)

I've had some emails/PMs about this and I wanted to clear up some questions:

First, I'm offering (to HAMMERHEAD & i8av8) to reburn their non BBZB chip to BBZB code for free + S&H.

Secondly, we offer our own improved chip that is better in many ways than the BBZB (we remove the first boost limiter, remove the speed limiter, raise the overboost cut, raise the rev limiter, provide better WG control, optimize idle, rewrite fueling and timing tables for better idle/part throttle/WOT performance, turn IC pump on all the time, allow TCC lockup under WOT from 40 mph and up, and remove EGR if so desired). This service is $50 and is always available through our site - http://www.hoodtuned.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&path=20&product_id=51

Having said that, anyone looking to have their chip reburnt, send it to:

HAMMERHEAD & i8av8, send $10 with the chip or paypal it to me (addy below). All others, contact me or order the improved HTP chip above.

Re: WTB stock chip (updated version)

sytyguy, i was looking at your site and came across the 3bar chip you offer and was wondering if it would interfere with my ultimate set-up?

you told me a while back that you are not able to reflash the ultimate chip so maybe this 3bar chip you offer could werk for me.

running 3bar, larger turbo, vortec heads, a2a, cat delete, egr delete, bored 60 over

thank you

What turbo? What injectors?

I have almost migrated all my 3bar tuning over to code59, but I may have a tune for your build (if not I can custom tune one). We reprogram the stock memcal, so in order to run our upgraded programs (2bar or 3bar) you would omit the Ultimate.

Re: WTB stock chip (updated version)

sorry, i knew i was forgetting something. super 25g turbo and 50lb (green top) injectors

i'd love to be able to get rid of the ultimate

also, 3" cat-back with stock dp and 255 walbro fuel pump

I'm only familiar with the 42lb line of green top injectors (50's are usually Delphi and grey bodied).

If these are what you have, then I don't specifically have a tune for them, though I could modify a 40lb or 50lb tune for them. Otherwise, you could upgrade to code59 and we could tune via email (rather than shipping chips back and forth).

Re: WTB stock chip (updated version)

okay, not green tops but olive sort of army green. this is why i need so much help. i'd like to do it by chip because that code 59 i will never understand. also, the ultimate chip says "STG RACING 50# VORTEC V2

Re: WTB stock chip (updated version)

Yeah those are 50# delphis you have (considered grey bodied).

Me? I mentioned price in back on page 1, here:

So, if you wanted me to reburn a chip for BBZB, send $10 and the chip. If you want me to burn anything else (HTP upgrades or custom), then it's the $50 + S&H described in the link.
