Z06 Q for us 2wd guys...

So, I'm looking for wheels and I did some photo editing to see what Z06's would look like on the GT if it were painted pure red. I don't have anything fancy like Adobe, so I had to just mess with the saturation/hues/brightness until I got a color that resemble stock red. (If anybody can do something better, please do! lol) I didn't think it turned out too bad, and I like the ZO6 look. I know the rims will fit on you AWD guys, but I don't know about the rest of us. It seems to be like it'd be way too wide and it'd rub... Maybe I'm wrong. Does anybody know if we have less space in the front or how wide I can go? Because all the rims I'm finding are a minimum of 9.5.

Here's my crappy photo editing

IIRC, the problem with wider wheels is rubbing up front. I thinkyou if you limit the steering slightly you can run 9.5s ... I personally would be wary of running them because it will need spacers (1.25" or thereabouts) on all four wheels ... thats just MHO, I don't like spacers

Is that because it transfers the weight off of the wheels on onto the spacers? Just curious, I'm sure it probably adds a lot of risk if the vehicle's raced at all. It's just so dang hard to find a good looking wheel that isn't wider than 8". Most of the stuff out there today is just so.... "bling-bling". I like the ZR-1's (just not as much)but they probably also require spacers. My only other requirement is that they run flush with the side.

Yes, partly that the spacers are bearing quite a bit of load. Moreso, that I have seen people have problems with spacers not staying tight and so on (10 lugs per wheel instead of 5 to worry about)... my brother wrecked all the passengers rear cladding on his Ty because the spacer wiggled itself loose and the whole wheel fell off while driving.... fortunately slowly, but he did have to fish the wheel out of a river

And I know what you mean about wheels... browsing for my GT now... I think I've got a lead on some early Firehawk style wheels but they're tough to get ahold of

Well, I found these later today while browsing...

http://www.slickcar.com/productdetails.asp?ProductID=4695

They're 8.5" rims and I went out and measured my tire. It's 9" 's wide, so the widest rim I could run up front would be an 8.5 wouldn't it? My only other difficulty is getting two matching one's for the rear to match the ford 9" but I'm assuming most places don't drill them until they get an order so that shouldn't be too big of a hassle. You can also get them in a 49 or 56 offset. I don't know a whole lot about wheels so I don't know what that affects.

That number effects the distance from the centerline that the hub is.... on a stock SyTy rear wheel, which fits the 2wd flush with the fender, there is 13mm of backspace on 8 inch wheels. so, thats 3.5 inches out from the flage. To make an 8.5 fit, you'd want the same 3.5" outside the hub, but now the centerline is another 1/4" further into the wheel, so you'd need a 19mm backspace... so, subtract that from whatever the backspace is (56-19 = 37 or 49-19= 30) and that tells you how much spacer you need

The guys on S-SeriesForum were just talking about 2wd S10s with Z06 wheels. Here is what needs to be done.

(Yes Sys, Tys, and SoGTs are all just S10s under it all)

I'm thinking about running classic firehawk style wheels on my GT... they're fitted to a 91 camaro so they would be a flush fit bolt up, but they're 9.5 all around... I take it that the 9.5's can be done on the front but only with work? Off course, I could use spacers and get a set of 7.5's for the front, but I don't like the spacers ... stuck between a rock and a hard place eh

if you go with a 17 x 8.5 wheel in the front, you can use a 1.5 inch adapter...

I've also got those wheels. (and if you've got any pics of yours I'd love to see 'em)

I went with a 2.25" spacer all around (but that was specifically for my old Z28 rims which were 16x8).

I think the 2" spacers would be sufficient - mine stick out in the front just a bit. 0

Re: Z06 Q for us 2wd guys...

Geez... is there a place that actually sells s-series aftermarket wheels or are well all pretty much just stuck with spacers?

I have ROH Snypers on my Ty...flush fitment, no spacers, 17x9 inch. they're 18mm and 48mm offset, IIRC. They make them in about 7 different offsets. I checked with them recently about the RT, they have the 17x9 in the appropriate backspacing (for the 9" width you'd need an 18mm ) as well.

They are only available here but they have decent prices and can get a lot of sizes. Most of their wheels come in both the common GM and Ford spacings (in reference to the post about the 9 inch rear )

Have you looked at the ZT's at all? They don't look too bad I think. The gallery for them doesn't work/exist so I don't know what they look like on a vehicle. They appear to be from Australia. Was the shipping high on them or do they have a division here in the states?

Group A wheels (the site they're on) is the US distributor. They have a branch in NY and one in CA ... If I remember right, I paid about $85 in shipping when I bought them

The ZT is a closeout wheel, I checked a couple months ago but they didn't have the offsets I needed for the Ty

Re: Z06 Q for us 2wd guys...

I'm a little late to this post, and didn't read it all word for word, so this might have already been covered, but I'm thinking it might help so here goes anyway.

I'm running 17x8.5 C5 thin spokes on my '00 Xtreme. I had to purchase some nice 2.25" adapters from Skulte Performance (EXCELLENT company BTW) to make them fit. I run 275/40/17's all the way around with a little rubbing on the front. I lost perhaps 1/8th turn on the steering wheel each direction. It's nothing major.

When you put an adapter (adapters have 10 lugs, spacers fit on the stock 5, and just space the wheel out BTW) on, it's not going to do any damage to the bearings/axles as long as you keep the centerline of the wheel in the same location relative to stock. Basically if you are running an 8" wide wheel now, and move to 8.5" wide wheels you want to do the math so that your wheel centerline doesn't move. You need to add the .25" to each side of the wheel evenly to prevent bearing issues (you can move it some, but I personally don't reccomend it).

I've been running the adapters since January of last year, and love it. As most know I don't treat my daily so well, and generally beat the hell out of it. If I can't break it, chances are it won't :D.

Boyd coddington has some pretty sweet wheels in 8 inches wide and various other sizes. The wheels on the front of my GT are 17X8 5-spoke smoothie 2's although I'd like to upgrade to 18's......

No wonder you're broke if you have those wheels, they're fricken expensive! Do they pretty much make them however you want them?

Haha, actually I got a deal on them through a friend of my dad's ( he works at a wheel place). It is more the ls1 swap that drains all my $$ then my wheels... :rotf:
About sizes...I'm not so sure. They have a set list on their website of sizes they will make the wheel in but the widest they will go with my wheels are 10 inches. I'm trying to get ahold of them right as we speak to try and get em to make me a pair of 18X 12's for the rear...I'll let you know what they say about custom sizes and how rediculously expensive they are.
