Anyone here have 8"subs in there sy? Just curious on how they sound, not much space to mount decent subs in these things.

8's would put out decent sound - they are going behind your seats. I have 10's and they hit hard.

I built boxes for my 10's also... but they only REALLY hit hard when RAP is playing. And we all know you can't spell CRAP without RAP.

Re: 8"SUBS?

I've got a pair of 8" Image Dynamics ID8's in my Sy. Box is dual chambered .5ft^3 per sub, ported. Ports are 2"x12". Box is tuned to approx 35Hz. Box is a true triangle shape in order to maximize legroom. I lost 1 click on my seats.

Sounds pretty darn good to me. I need to nail down what I'm going to finally use for mids and highs though to balance out the sound. Coaxials in the doors are just not cutting it.

If space is a concern (and I know it is) take a gander at these 10's:

http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=106 Elemental Designs 10 Sub (basically the same sub, there's a big whodunnit over who stole who's design)

or if you want to go really crazy these should be available soon:
http://mobile.jlaudio.com/jlaudio_pages.php?page_id=213 JL Audio's new flat subs available is 12" or 13" and only 2.5" deep!!!. Cool......

Re: 8"SUBS?

Quick question. What will porting the box with say.... a 2" port do for the sound/bass? I have always thought about that....since mine are sealed.

Short answer is it will play a lower note if tuned right. just picking a tube and a lenght wont necc make it sound good or better, sealed will be a smaller box all around, but a ported box is more efficient. if you listen to rock, then sealed is probaby the way to go.

Re: 8"SUBS?

True often times you will achieve better sound quality with a sealed box, but not always. I've heard some PHENOMENAL ported enclosures in my time.
Image Dynamics is a well known "SQ" company, so even their ported boxes give excellent sound. I just wanted a little more bump in the lower end since the subs are directly behind the seats, and after all, they are only 8" speakers.
I've had the same subs in my truck in both .3ft^3 sealed and now .5ft^3 ported and honestly, the audible difference is pretty negligible.
I mainly like ported enclosures in this case since they are more efficient than sealed. I can't make up my mind on amplifier configuration yet so I can use several different power levels (depending on which amp I'm using that week) on my subs and still maintain acceptable low end volume.

Re: 8"SUBS?

I have 8" subs behind the seats of my sy with 150 watts from an alpine amp going to each. It sounds great to me. expecially with a small space like our cab.

Re: 8"SUBS?

Bass sounds GREAT...when the windows are rolled down. I mounted my two amps in between the two boxes... couldnt fit the end caps on the RF amps though. Still looks good.

I have a pair of 8" subs in between the two seats, up against the back wall stretching from about center console height to the roof. Sound is ****ing killer, with the bass reflecting off the windshield and all :)

Get yourself a soundsplinter rli-8 here,

I have one of these nasty little subs in the supra and it hits like a 12"! I was recommended by members from a car audio forum. The sub weighs 18lbs and fits in a box as small as .2 cubic ft!

With a mounting Depth of 6" it makes it awfully hard to install in the back of Syclone.

Never said it would be easy but it could be done and it would sound amazing. You had to see what i had to come up with to stuff it in the supra.

I've got two 8 in JL W3v2's in my explorer and the mounting depth is a little less than 4.5 inches if top mounted. They sound great in the explorer, would imagine even better in the sy. I know if they fit where I put them, then they will fit no problem in the sy. Will take pics If anyone is interested. Leme know.
