Air Foil UPGRADE Kit

TYRODD

My ass. Look at it.
Re: Air Foil UPGRADE Kit

It cant hurt. I had my TB rebuilt to 52mm and had an airfoil installed, It made a bigger difference than I thought it would. I think it had more to do with the rebuild though...

Re: Air Foil UPGRADE Kit

I love mine in the lt1. All the expensive billet units have an "air foil" included in their design so it cant hurt. Takes 5 min to install. It freaks me out how SYTY'ers havent really caught on with the TB idea. I wouldnt run anything less than a 52 or a 58 on our trucks being FI and all ---

Re: Air Foil UPGRADE Kit

when I had mine opened up to 52mm I threw in a foil too. not shure if it would help on a boosted engine but what the hell. Cant hurt.

If you find one on the side of the road, I'd throw it in, but I wouldnt spend too much on it.

Re: Air Foil UPGRADE Kit

if I were still running a stock TB I'd have a foil on it. I have the BBK 58mm (one of the last, along with my full ATR stainless system  ) which has essentially a cast in foil

Re: Air Foil UPGRADE Kit

When I went to UTI, and what going through the Hot Rod U portion, we tossed one onto an LT1 Camaro. If I remember correctly, it was the cheaper plastic one that clips right in and was held on by the intake tube. I'm trying to remember what the car gained, but I remember it was impressive for such a cheap, pathetic addon. It picked up somewhere between 12-20 hp at the wheels. But I don't think it's gonna make as much of a difference with forced induction. Maybe it can improve gas mileage?

Re: Air Foil UPGRADE Kit

I am of the opinion they will lead to very minimal gains on our motors. I have one, (it was off my corvette). My main reason for using it because of my alcohol injection, I think it will provide better air flow for the alky mist. I have a seen a few dyno for air foils, most are in the 1-3 hp range of gains. I have never seen a car lose hp with an air foil.

damnn... there goes another origonal idea already done lol
its venting the turbo side of the throttle plates and not the engine side... correct ?

Re: Air Foil UPGRADE Kit

could you also install a ext. wastegate on your old EGR valve spot?? lol

It is, the biggest problem is that I did not port out the inlet between the chamber under the plate and the passage between the blades. On the stocker it has better flow than on the BBK I have now, but it still does its job.

EGR wastegates... you could, but it wouldn't work very well and plumbing it would suck

ok lol now you've done it !
now we have to see pics on this !!!
(plus... in looking at my spare throttle body... I still cant see you did it lol)

This is an LT1 body, but the bores are cast the same way. You can see between the blades on the upper side that there is a small area which is lower than the rest. This is a pass through to that upper chamber. It's probably about 3/8" stock, could be opened up quite a bit to facilitate better flow for blow off. If you remove the top plate, you will see that passage and that the uppermost outlet on the left side of the blades (3/8" barb) runs into the chamber below the plate as well. It is intended for use in some kind of PCV system, but I simply capped it, so the only way out of that chamber is via the BOV

For an EGR wastegate... the exhaust flow to the EGR valve is only from 4 cylinders IIRC, so you've already lost efficiency there. It also flows through a pretty small and lengthy passage, there's hurdle two. Problem three is routing the wasted exhaust to the DP without running it back into the intake... long and weird looking piece of pipe right there
