Hey Guys,


I'm interested in installing a tranny cooler but I want something that I can grow with and that will be a quality unit. I found this cooler at summit...

This should fit no problem in front of the radiator side on the passenger side correct? I beleive that this cooler is slightly overkill but It should really help reduce heat while im building boost at the line, that seems when most of these tranny's get damage done. What do you guys think about this cooler? Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I think you can do this MUCH cheaper. Do a search for my user name and you'll find part numbers and picturs and the whole nine. I got this cooler from Summit and a SPAL from eBay (I have two for sale in the for sale section here.

Edit: I see this includes a 160 degree thermostat so that's a pretty fair deal. I put mine in front of the radiator and can tell you it's real tight in there. My cooler is 3/4" thick and the fan is 2.05" thick and it all barely fits. Take measurements before you buy anything so you don't regret it.

For the tranny cooler I wanted to run it on the passenger side of the radiator but it looks like the support for the hood latch will drastically limit space. It should fit but here's the thing...

I want to run an air to air setup, but I am not sure if I should get the McCoy kit where it is a bottom mounted intercooler or something like your setup as to mount it directly in the grill. Any comments on that?

This is the cooler I'm running on my truck, it works really well. The temps going into the cooler was 168* and coming out of the cooler it was 125*. It will fit on the passenger side but it is a VERY tight fit.

I'm running the B&M #70266 up front and a Derale #13700 under the bed. All stock metal lines were replaced with 6AN braided and there's also a Jeg's auxiliary filter #71-10678 before the front cooler. My temps are 160-180F on average, but will spike up to 210F if I beat on it. The bed-cooler fan with a manual switch does cool the fluid very quickly. The temp sensor is in the filter housing so it's reading fluid right from the tranny high-pressure (hot) line. I'm sure the readings would be much lower if I had placed the probe after the two coolers, but I wanted to read the temps at or near their hottest.

What pressures do these lines run at from and to the tranny? I want to make sure that the braided line is strong enough. Also, what thoughts do you all have in regards to bypassing the stock cooler and just using a setup like I posted above? so it would be, tranny out ---> remote oil filter with temp sensor----> b&m super cooler ----- tranny in.

You already have the radiator fan to pull air through the cooler. I don't think you'll need another, unless you were going to mount it somewhere else where there wasn't constant air flow.

You can use the B&M 11" wide cooler. It covers half of the radiator. If slides in nice & tight in the gap between the core support & hood latch support so you'll only have to drill 2 holes to mount it.

I replaced all my trans lines with braided -6 hose/fittings and its more than up to the task of handling any pressure that they would see from the coolant circuit. I also bypassed the stock cooler thats in the radiator and noted that the over all temps stayed lower but would spike faster when stalling the motor against the converter. This isnt a huge deal since the spikes never got over 190* since the fluid was already at a lower temp to begin with and stalling the motor against the converter shouldnt be a lengthy enough process unless you have too big of a turbo for the converter to spool it or other issues.

On a road course there may be an issue with getting the fluid hot and the single cooler in front of the radiator not being able to cope but I dont know of a single sytyer that participates in track days on courses where lap times are measured in minutes. Besides youll burn the stock brakes up and have to park it if you do happen to get on a lengthy road course and beat the truck (just ask the member on here "tookycat").

This is the way mine is set up. I installed a remote filter, bypass the stock cooler and run the BM Cooler with fan listed earlier.

I could not get that cooler to fit behind my grille, just for reference, so I had to take the fan off
