Re: CF cowl hood interest

I would probably pay around $1K, but I don't really want 2.5" cowl hood (stock or 1.5").

I'd pay 800-850 shipped for the hood. The flat hood was just a suggestion. I'd still get one if it had a rise to it. How big of a cowl rise are you looking at doing? 2"? Or more?

That looks perfect to me. 1.5" - 2" rise; definately count me in IF you go through with this.

That's the perfect height! Id buy one, prefer pin-on style. If you ever decide to
make them, let me know I'd like to get one!

Re: CF cowl hood interest

my fliberglass hood "flapped" are these strong enough no to do that? ---

I dont know, they arent made yet ;)

If your seals are good (around the hinge and the rubber gasket on the cowling) I would go to say these hood will not flap to a certain degree...at least, it wont be caused by the hood construction. Realize too that your seals around the hinges, the rubber gasket on the cowling, and the bump stops on the core support play a huge roll in fitment and keep a hood from flapping. Also, the high pressure area created around the windshield next to the cowl wants to make it lift, so that attributes to cowl flap.

If I can make these, more than likely 2-3 will be made prior before I would consider selling just to test out and make sure everything is up to pay as far as my standard of quality (which is high when it comes to CF).

Ideally, Id love to do the hood with a smooth bottom side and not the bracing to eliminate the clearance issue (plus I think it looks 100x better) which im trying to look into. The hood I would be molding from has the brace style underside. Need to figure out if I can modify it to work and be smooth instead.

100 people will say they want one ,and to send them 25 pics, maybe two will buy actually buy.
Just make sure you get a deposit before you build them or you may waste alot of time Adam....

wouldnt do it any other way. ;) there is absolutely no way I would just pump out hoods expecting them to sell left and right. It would be a made to order process. I wont even sell one until I was happy with the product to begin with. I mean, Im really really good at fiberglass stuff, but when you make something new, rarely does the first piece ever come out perfect...which is why there will be a few FG tests.

Cant say, up to the sponsor who I have. It's sorta an involved process on whats going on to make this come about. This sorta isnt a person to person deal...there's a few parties involved. I was a choice to go to since I have the FG/CF experience to do it and do it right.

I gotta be the one to muddy up the thread......**cough cough** CF tailgates ever gonna be made? **cough cough**

I'll go ahead and put it out there. I have a brand new OEM GM tailgate sitting just waiting for us to do something with it. A tailgate is much more technical to make over a hood...especially if you want it stock style bolt on. The mold process is a lot more involved as well due to the curves and how the gate is put together. If you look at a gate, its one huge piece of metal that has been folded and rolled and spot welded together. Obviously, you cant do that with CF. It would to be a multi-piece mold. There is going to be visible seams with how I would make it, there is just no way around that. If I had an autoclave and the place/expenses to work with prepreg, it might be a different story. There is a lot more involved with just thinking you can slap resin on both sides, pop a mold off and then start laying in CF and making gates. If it was that easy, it would have been done long ago, trust me.

So to answer the question if CF gates are gonna be made? Im sure eventually. I do know a few others on this board who are wanting to make them as well. Im not in a race with anyone to make anything. Im going to make what I want for my own truck regardless if its already being made and sold or not.

This whole hood thing is a private deal that came to me without the intention to make them for anyone else. But the owner of the truck who wants it knows the time/expense it takes to do it, so he doesnt mind if I produced them after his was finished so I could profit on my end with a few sales...hence, why I posted interest. Making CF parts isnt a fulltime job for me, or ever will be. Its on my own time.

Re: CF cowl hood interest

i actually dont own a syclone or typhoon, but it will fit my 93 Sonoma. I am in the market for a cowl hood right now so this is good timing.

Re: CF cowl hood interest

Are you going to add any vents? It would really help reduce engine temps and would'nt hurt in the looks department. I am considering adding GTA vents to my hood.

If you wanna cut up the hood afterwards, thats all you ;) As you cut through the carbon fiber, if you look close enough you can see dollar bills signs in the dust......no joke.

Any vents would have to be incorported into the mold . That would mean everyone gets vents , and the extra work is going to make the hood more $$$ . Just stuff to consider .
