Help! New guy thinking about buying.

Ok, so I have been thinking about buying a Syclone or Typhoon for a very long time. After lots of research the Sy seems like its the faster of the two and is more of something I would feel comfortable in. The only thing is I see pricing scales that really don't make sense. I saw someone selling a stock syclone for 14.5 that had 78K miles on it. Later, I found another sy with 18K miles on it for 14.5. Same truck... A LOT MORE MILES, similar condition, but the same price. I have recently come across 2 more SY's, one has 10K miles on it for $24,000 and another with 8800 miles on it for $23,000. I am thinking about getting the one with 8800 miles on it because its within 300 miles of me. But is this even a good price? KellyBlue book doesn't seem to be the most accurate. Basically I want to buy a Sy to drive on sundays or maybe even once a month (preserve it more or less) and if I ever need the money back to buy a house or something a few years from now, I won't loose my ass. Hopefully someone can help me. Thanks :)

I'd say try to see them all, within range of your home of course. Some maybe heavily modified (like mine) some maybe be in prestine condition others in so so. Of course some people think they have a gold mine on thier hands, maybe thier not familure with syty.net and don't realize they maybe over priced. I ran into a guy with the crappiest syclone I have ever seen here in my town, he took it out to the oilfields in Santa Paula man it looked like CRAP, and he wanted 20g's for it... He never heard of syty.net and thought he could get 20 for it because it was so rare. I'd look at the sy's that are listed here on this site, those people "tend" to know more about the vehicle and it's worth. That's my two cents and I'm sticking to it.

oh... love the screen name.

If the 18K mile truck is the one I think it is, it had a questionable history. It was owned my 16 year old HS kid who beat the piss out of it and complained about the engine knocking. I don't know which 78K mile truck you talking about but maybe it was in really nice shape, a few worthwhile mods or maybe someone offer him a couple grand less (to closer to what I would value of 78K mile truck) As with all vehicles, some people find deals, so people get ripped off.

I would try to find a nice 100% stock Sy for what you want. Those are the easiest to get rid of and most desirable to collectors. The trucks you mention are in the ball park of what I think they are worth, I would put them at low 20's.

check all the vins and history dont buy it unless you absolutly love it. I have a 93 ty and i love it but she breaks down a lot, so when you test drive it make sure you thoroughly inspect it and drive it for atleast 30 mins to an hour.

Re: Help! New guy thinking about buying.

If I had a MINT low mileage Syclone,I would not sell it for less than 20k.

(Actually,I would not sell it for any amount of money, ever. But that's just me.)

Re: Help! New guy thinking about buying.

Seriously, expect to fix somethings regardless. After all Sy's are 16 years old. Because the vehicles are older, nothing has to be reported to Carfax. That started around 99 ish.

Look at the one's you like, and go from there. None of them will be perfect. Mine was neglected and hadn't ran in a year. The guy had to jump to get it out of the garage for me. Gas had been the Sy for a year and it ran like crap. He even thought it was supercharged. Either way, I felt obligated to take this legend away from him. Now, for the majority of his life, he rests underneath a cover, but when he is not, "Norman" preys on the streets.

Happy hunting!

Re: Help! New guy thinking about buying.

When I was shopping for a syclone it was quite an interesting experience to say the least. I found most of the higher mileage trucks in my area were in better mechanical condition than the low mileage ones.

Pretty much all the trucks I looked at had the same few issues whether they had 100k miles or 15k miles and prices were mostly ridiculous. I finally found mine with 90k miles that had a rebuilt motor and transmission with receipts to prove and I had all documentation on the truck. Only problem I've had was the purple wire and starter fix and I drive it everyday.

Keep looking and you'll find a deal somewhere. I think anything over 15k for a truck that is 16 years old no matter what mileage it has is high unless you are a collector looking for a museum piece.

LMFAO I have Forrest Gump in the dvd player RIGHT NOW !!!

I understand what this guy is going through....I spent $13k on my truck with 63k miles on it, some days I feel ripped/some days not. Bottom line is I love my truck and wouldnt trade it for anything now :) ---

I have see brand new no mileage PERFECT Sy/Ty/SGT's,and it's really hard to put a value on them compared to "normal" trucks.I would say the best of the best are worth double the average truck. :2cents:
